I'm planning a wedding in a state park in September with no rain plan....half because I dream of being outside the other half because we can't afford an indoor place or big tent. I'm excited, I feel it will work out well and it if rains well have fun.
We are planning an outdoor garden wedding, but at the end of June and in San Diego...I guess I have never worried about weather for these two reasons...but then again, I guess anything is possible. It spontaneously rained in California today...
Haha...the last thing I need to start worrying about is a .0001 percent chance of rain at the end of June in sunny SD...so I think I am going to forget about this post entirely and focus instead on my ever-expanding guest list...haha.
We're having an outdoor ceremony (we do have a backup plan, but I'm not thinking about it because it is depressing!!!) and an indoor reception. You know... you can plan and plan and plan, and it can rain or it can shine. You'll never know until the day of. All you can do is hope and pray. You don't want to plan something that you won't absolutley love because of the chance of rain.
we are hoping to have an ourdoor ceremony but the venue doesnt have an indoor optiont o fit us all, so if it rains we'll haveto use the room at the hotel where we are having the reception.
i am actually more worried about finding a good place for pictures if it rains!
We're having an outdoor ceremony but an indoor reception. I envisioned having an outdoor ceremony for such a long time. But, We're just hoping and praying that it doesn't rain on our wedding day because if it rains, we will be having the ceremony on the patio of the venue. Not something I particularly want, but can't control the weather!
Our wedding will be indoor/outdoor as well. It is at a private estate where the ceremony will be outdoors as will dinner, but lounging and dancing will be indoors! Best of both worlds! Also, no rain plan... but luckily our rainy season is during the winter.
We're having a 6pm outdoor ceremony in NC but an indoor reception. I am just praying it doesn't rain...it's worth the risk to me, it has never been an option for me to get married indoors!
We're having an outdoor July ceremony with a marquee reception, in the UK
It's absolutely beautiful when the sun's shining, but I'm so worried about it being wet! I don't think the venue has enough inside space for a good backup plan to be possible...
@clumsylawyer: Well, I have high hopes that after this year's torrential rain and flooding we may be on for another two years of drought ;-)
I'm just having our ceremony outside.. It will be at 5:30 in NJ so crossing fingers it won't be as hot as it was this year! Its going to be a short ceremony though, so hopefully guests won't be too uncomfortable even if it is warm.
@Oxfordnerd: Tell me about it! Out of interest, are you from Oxford or did you go to uni there? I was at Magdalen and two of my friends are marrying there at the end of the month (luckily inside!)
@Kate0558: Yup, late October in Minnesota.......it could be 90 degrees, or it could be 20 with snow. Luckily, included in our pacakge is a chapel we can use as backup.
I'm a major risk taker. Afternoon outdoor wedding in June... in TEXAS (only the ceremony, though). It's probably going to be sweltering, but I seriously hope not. Of course, if the weather is too bad, we DO have the option of having our ceremony inside, but the outdoor area of the bed and breakfast we're having our wedding at is so pretty.
@kayrie95: I'm right with you, girl! I am having an outdoor ceremony in June in Florida... where it promises to be 95 degrees, raining, hurricaning, or all 3!! Hahaha. Luckily, my venue has a gorgeous back-up venue, so if it is too hot, too wet, or a hurricane is coming, we'll move indoors. But I have ALWAYS wanted to get married outside, so if it's simply hot, we'll serve ice water and my guests (and I) will suffer for 25 minutes before moving indoors to eat, drink, and dance!
Hi All! I had an outdoor ceremony this past June. I was nervous the entire time about the weather. But I was dead set on an outdoor ceremony, and it actually cost us more than it would have been to have an inside ceremony.
Forecasts showed showers on my wedding day. When I went to my florist the day before the wedding, she tryed to convince me to call my venue and have them set up for the ceremony inside. I refused and hoped for the best. It rained the night before the wedding, and the morning was gloomy until 7am or so (we were up at 4am for hair and make up). But then it cleared up and it was a beautiful day! I am so glad I did not listen to my florist, because it was the ceremony of my dreams!
I couldnt do it... The weather is way too unpredictable where I live!!!
Good luck! Im sure your wedding will be beautiful!!!!
we're having an outdoor ceremony followed by an outdoor reception... we're supposed to have an abominable winter so I'm reeaaaallly hoping that means a relatively cool early summer! if it rains I guess we'll move it all to the reception tent, but I'm just super hoping it doesn't rain :)
I'm having an outdoor ceremony in Newfoundland in late June... If you know anything about Newfoundland you know there is a possibility of any of the 4 seasons coming out any given day.... I am hoping for a pretty day though
Getting married on the beach in June. So it will be hot but I'm hoping the nice breeze will keep us cool!
I'm having an outdoor ceremony but the reception will be in an enclosed tent. I think it's totally worth the rain risk and if we're blessed with good luck rain, we'll have a plan to use the tent for double duty.
Our ceremony is outdoors. I had originally been completely against it but the indoor options for our venue were not my favorite. So the ceremony will be outside in June in Kentucky. Probably upper 80s. :/ If it rains, the ceremony will inside what they call the "barn" with isn't really a barn at all. lol That is where cocktail hour is to be held if the sun is shining. The location outside is gorgeous so I really hope the weather holds up!!
Our cocktall hour/reception will be held inside.
We are having a private mountain top ceremony and an indoor reception. There are a few risks.. I don't care if it rains or if it's grey for the ceremony, it could be worse! My main concern is the wind. If it's too high, the helicopter can't safely land on the mountain and we'll have to do a last minute location change to somewhere accessible by ground. I'll be devastated if there's high winds, but willing to take the risk. Regardless, I'm getting married. *fingers crossed*
Mine is half-and-half: ceremony outside reception inside. I just love the idea of being outside with flowers everywhere getting married under a gazebo :)
I'm chancing it, but the Farmer's Almanac (YES, I'M WEIRD. AND FROM THE SOUTH.) says that it'll be a few degrees hotter than normal and should be sunny! :)
@missmorganista: I'm from the South, but didn't think of the almanac. I think I'll look up my date, too. LOL
@MrsPeterson86: Provided the weather is clear, I'll be married under a gazebo, too. It overlooks a small pond, & will be beautifully decorated in white & cream florals. I'm praying for no rain, but just enough cloud cover to shield my guests & bridal party during the afternoon ceremony.
I always wanted to get married outside and am willing to take my chances...either way, technically, we are getting married outside.
In the no-rain situation, we will be married under a beautiful maple tree on the greens of the family golf club.
In the case of rain, the ceremony will be moved under the covered patio.
The best part of getting married on a golf course (or at least ours) is that they have weather radar on site and can tell if it is going to rain within a 15-20 minute window. So hopefully, it stays dry. Our wedding coordinator says that where the club is situated it often gets passed by during rainstorms so I'm hoping that we'll luck out!
@LibbyLoo: We'll be in the same boat- married outside in Ontario on June 1st- lets keep our fingers crossed for each other!
@FoolsintheRain: Awesome!! My brother got married this year on the Victoria Day weekend and the weather was perfect. I made a wish that we would have the same weather on our day in 2013 so hopefully, my wish works and we both get sunny days out of it!
We chose June 15th 2013 one June 8th 2012. It was absolutely gordeous that day, High 70's, very light breeze. The following week, June 15th was 95 degrees!!! The next week, it rained!! I have NO idea what will happen. We have a large tent on hold which costs about $1,200. We can cancel the hold by the Wednesday before the wedding. I really hope we don't need it, that changes our budget significantly. Not te mention we chose this venue based on the beautiful open look & the tent will change the feel... I just keep praying for sunshine. And to be honest, I'd rather have it be in the 90's than raining!! We'll have shady areas for people & I'm more concerned about good weather into the night so people want to stay & dance ;)
Good luck everyone!! We should do an update afterwards!
I am crossing my fingers for an outdoor wedding ceremony! If the weather was bad, we could have it inside the venue, or on their tiny covered porch, but it would be so squished! We also are hoping for a mostly outdoor reception with lawn games... It would be a huge damper if it rained!
Additionally, I am planning on having an outdoor rehearsal dinner. (Am I crazy?!) For the RD, we are on a tiny budget. The only thing I could come up (sadly, our venue is a little too far to have at anyone's house) with was to rent a nice covered picnic pavillion in a local park. If the weather is somewhat okay, it should be fabulous, but I don't really have a plan b- but hey, atleast it is covered.
@missmorganista: The Farmer's Almanac is such a great resource! When I was a kid, I loved looking at them in stores to see the forecast for snow for the upcoming winter.
Outdoors on a beach in Key Largo. No backup plan yet, but everytime we've ever traveled to Florida together there's either been a weather "event" here (Maine) or there So i expect something to happen. It'll be an early hurricane season or something ;)
CA in June is usually pretty warm if not HOT. Our venue does have a rain plan just in case.
We are having an outdoor wedding/reception but the site has a pavilon and we are also going to rent a tent.
Mine is June 8, 2013 as well. Ceremony and reception are outdoors. no backup plan since it is in my aunts beautiful backyard. prayers for days in hopes that the weather will be perfect. Any tips on websites that predict accurate weather?
I am doing an outdoor garden wedding with an indoor reception. We have a rain plan, and i would be a little bummed if we did not get to get married outside, but that is life in FL for you!
I'm a June 8, NC bride as well! We are getting married at a Winery outdoors with a covered pavilion. So the top will be covered with fans but everything else open to the elements. Weather is a big concern of mine too. With living in NC most of my life when June rolls around you can never really predict what kind of weather we will have around here. It seems to change from one day to the next! Could be really hot or cool, rain who knows! Our ceremony won't begin until 5:30 and reception will be indoors, but people will be able to go in and out as they please. We're just hoping for the best, I guess there's not really much u can do except make the best out of whatever situation occurs. Good luck!!!
Ours will be outdoors at a golf course with an INCREDIBLE background view. But it's Colorado, and it rarely, rarely rains...in fact, our wedding director told us in 10 years, they have had one wedding that had inclement weather, and had to move it indoors. Our place also has an indoor option (in a room filled with windows and the same view) so should be fine. I'm sure you will all have BEAUTIFUL weddings!
Fellow risk taker! We're having an outdoor ceremony by the water at a national park ( with a pavillion in case it rains) and an indoor reception not far. Definitely praying for no rain but out of my hands.

Anyone else taking the risk and having an Outdoor or Open-air ceremony and reception? What made it worth the risk for you - for us it was saving 2k dollars, Horses, white fence, and a friendly owner to work with.
Reception is in an old horse barn and ceremony is outside on the farm. Barn is open to the outside air. Ventilation system and fans will be in place for cooling. As well as cool beverages. Handing out little water bottles before ceremony. Weddings not til 4:30 giving temperatures a chance to cool down. (15 to 20 degrees cooler at night) For example, todays a high of 80 and a low of 64 for example. Its gorgeous out! We were able to get EVERYTHING we wanted while still staying in our Low budget- which for a while seemed impossible. We had to give up on something - since we don't have 2k dollars to give up - we gave up on AC. Yea sure we COULD have 90 and humid, we could also have torental downpoars, a hurricane, or 50 degrees and freezing. I can't control the weather, all i can do i make the best out of the situation i'm in. Besides I'm still a year away - thats a lot of prayer! lol! It worked for all my other sisters weddings! This way i'll be left with more money in my wallet and all the pictures I dreamed of - which is all your left with after the weddings over anyway right! I always wanted the white fence pictures and the horses - but i had totally given up on that and I got it!
I hope i'm not the only risk taker out there! Lets here your outside plans!
