Living in Colorado I put in my vote for my state. Estes Park hosts tons of destination weddings. If you don't mind driving out of the Front Range area head for Crested Butte.Touristy, but not as ritzy as Aspen or Vail.
On the east coast, western Maryland is quite hilly (I think they call them mountains) and beautiful. Maine is amazing in the summer - anywhere north of Portland on the coast would be beautiful.
OMG you need oregon!
The first one is the gorge- it is from my wedding. The rest are beautiful places here! Also we have no sales tax, so you can save a lot. I could even reccomend some stunning and awesome local photographers.

Rachelss: Estes Park is where would go if we decided on Colorado, we would get married in Rocky Mountain National Park. :) Do you have any other suggestions outside of Colorado? Maybe somewhere you have been and recall it's gorgeous scenery? Thanks so much for the input. :)
Vistagirl: Thanks for the input/visuals! Looks absolutely stunning, however it must be somewhere on the East Coast. :)
We are getting married in Vermont which has lots of beautiful mountain scenery. I would check it out!
LeahP: Vermont is pretty, we snowboarded at Killington once and we were impressed.
Also, we would consider Tennessee. :)
VT, NH (White Mountains), Maine (Camden, Bar Harbor, etc..), Ashland, NC, Adirondacks in NY (mountains and lakes)....there are tons of places that would meet your criteria, I think you need to just pick a place that you would want to go back to. The East Coast will never match the majesty of the Rockies, Cascades, Olympics, Sierras, etc... but will definitely provide a beautiful, natural backdrop for your wedding.
DON"T go to Omni Mount Washington. They used to be very highly regarded, but I just read some recent reviews-and they are TERRIBLE
I am in total agreement with Estes Park. It has some great locations and places that offer elopement packages, so you still get some of those wedding day rituals. Check into the Stanley Hotel, it is just gorgeous there!
I LOVE GAITLINBURG! Our origingal wedding plan was to elope to Gaitlinburg at The Preacher's House. Very affordable and cabin rentals!
But I decided I wanted to go to beauty school, so we had to cancel that plan.
Good luck deciding!
Hmm...Colorado...TONS of beautiful places. Telluride, Ouray, Estes Park, Vallecito Lake, Breckenridge, Pagosa Springs, Leadville, Silverton, Creede....the list goes on and on and on.
Lake Louise, Alberta. Gorgeous natural Rocky Mountains in all of their splendor. It's breathtaking.
I will second Lake Louise/Banff, Alberta, Canada. The Rockies are bigger than in Colorado and there are TONS of weddings/elopements up here.
Lake Louise is a beautiful turquoise colour because of the silt (it's glacier fed). Here's a pic of the view you could actually get married in front of, since the Chateau Lake Louise lakeside does elopements.
There are plenty of hiking trails in Banff National Park, where LL is located, including right around the lake, with all different difficulty levels. You can also canoe on the lake or in nearby Banff, whitewater rafting is available within a short drive, there are hot springs to relax in after a busy day, a Banff and Lake Louise gondola for great views. Nearby is Yoho National Park with even more walking/hiking trails, lakes, waterfalls and outdoor activities.
I sound like an ad, but really it's my favourite destination for outdoorsy stuff! I live in Edmonton, so I consider it an amazing part of my backyard. ;)
Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions and pictures everyone! :) It must be somewhere on the East Coast or real close. We may end up going to Gatlinburg, T.N.
Thanks so much for the heads up about Castle In The Clouds- what a beautiful place! :) Me likey!
I don't have any pictures, but the mountains in NC are beautiful. I love Asheville. There is great scenery, and it would be a great place to visit as well. The food there is fabulous and there are a number of inns and nice hotels that do wedding packages. Boone is also very scenic and the mountains up around West Jefferson along the New River are my favorite. It's very peaceful up there.

My Fiance and I will be eloping, we will be living in Va Beach by the time of our wedding. We are huge outdoor lovers and appreciate beautiful mountain scenery, we are considering eloping to Colorado, but would like other suggestions- places the East Coast. We would prefer the mountains, however we would consider the Ocean somewhere. Ideally we would like to elope and honeymoon at the same place, somewhere we can participate in outdoorsy activities.
