Is there a local park near by where you can rent a shelter house as a back up?  At least in my area, they rent cheep, and can keep the picnic theme going.

I would only do it as a back up.  If it rains and rains and rains, and you can’t have tables or tents, I would use it as a location B.  That doesn’t mean you can’t use your plan A, just that you have a plan B that won’t put you out too much if you don’t use it.  It doesn’t sound like location A will let you do anything more than pray if the weather is bad.

It it rains before your day and not ON your day, you can put pieces of plastic or trap under the blankets so they don’t get wet.

Check out the local weather history for the area on that particular day. If it is wet, you might consider tarps to put under the blankets. That is what campers and backpackers do for moist soil. Do think of something else though in case..
