- Wedding: May 2014
Hey everyone! I’m new here. Sort of. This is my first post ever, but I often read the threads on weddingbee when I need advice or inspiration.
Anyways, I’ve been planning an outdoor picnic wedding and reception for months. Every single detail of my wedding except for the food (which will be gourmet boxed lunches placed into picnic baskets) have all been DIY projects. Our venue is this lovely arobretum on our campus that means a lot to us as a couple. It’s free to use which is great, but there are a lot of restrictions. Like we can’t have tables or chairs, amplified sounds, or any other structures. So we’re going all out on the picnic theme with picnic blankets, pillows, picnic baskets, etc. I’ve beend doing run throughs for how we’re setting up the space and for decorations and everything has been turning out great so I’m super super super excited.
Unfortunately, I found out from a friend that May is usually the raniest month of the year for our location. My wedding date is May 11, 2014. I have no back up plan. If it rains the day of or any of the days leading up to our wedding, the grass will be wet so we can’t expect our guests to sit down on picnic blankets. We can’t have a tent. We can’t have chairs. I don’t know what to do and I’m freaking out. If I change to an indoor venue, I can’t continue with the picnic theme. I feel like it would look and feel cheap and awkward.
The Weather Channel says that it won’t rain, but I don’t know if I can trust that. The weather in this town tends to be pretty fickle, plus it’s like 5 months away.
