Outdoor weddings always provide much better picture opportunities, I think. I'm a fan of the church wedding though, as my family is religious. They would be disappointed if I didn't have my ceremony in a church! What do YOU prefer??
I wanted an outdoor ceremony, my family is giving me a lot of crap about it..I am fairly religious as well, I just don't feel that getting married by my pastor in an outdoor setting takes away from that
I LOVED our outdoor venue:
I totally don't regret not having it in a church. It was wonderful.
It's at Lake Okoboji in North Central Iowa. I'm sure with the great lakes in Illinios you could get something similar though.
I think outdoor weddings are beautiful, and would love to count on April in Chicago to be a good outdoor wedding time (Ha!). You get a fantastic view & pictures, but a lot more variables. But, I've been to some where you couldn't hear anything that was going on, and stood up in one where a bee flew up my dress and caused the ring bearer to run from the altar... so... they're variable!
My wedding was outdoors and I couldn't say enough about how well it went. People said that it was absolutely beautiful.
although we eloped, we had an outdoor wedding and my only word of advise is choose your time well
the ONLY thing i would consider changing about our wedding was the time - we married at 1pm on the beach (in PNG) under the blazing hot tropical sun... it didnt put a damper on the day and it was a wonderful wedding that we loved loved loved but by the time the band decided to play its 4th song we were seriously thinking ok guys, lets get to the i'dos so we can get out of the sun
personally i'm not a fan of church weddings. unless the church is just stunningly gorgeous, there's nothing that can transform a church to make it look really nice. outdoors you have nature providing practically all the beauty you need.
Ours will be outdoors, but that's because our ceremony will be non-secular. I love my venue too! It's behind the little white house... like in the backyard of it if you will. :)
If you belong to a church and your religious faith is important to you, then you should strongly consider having a ceremony at your church. Most churches and/or other houses of worship offer free or a very low cost fee to rent the site, especially to their own members. You can dress up the ceremony with flowers, aisle runners, etc, and many churches have gardens where you can take lovely photos. However, if you have your heart set on an outdoor ceremony, you can still have a pastor officiate or incorporate spiritual elements to your ceremony to make it special. Keep in mind that with an outdoor wedding, you're usually at the mercy of the weather. In the summer, it could get uncomfortably hot; and in the winter or spring, the chances of rain or high winds could increase. You have to have a backup plan if you hold it outdoors.
