So, my fiance and I have just begun planning our wedding. We are very set on having an outdoor wedding at Garden of the Gods in Colorado. It’s just gorgeous scenery and we both love it. However, we found out last night that they don’t make reservations or permits to use one of the sites. It’s just first come first serve. My fiance is of the attitude that we can just wait it out if another wedding is going since the website says they have to be brief. I’m not happy about that option. I also don’t want to have our friends and family walking around trying to figure out which site we’re at. I realize it is probably pretty improbable that someone else choses the same site the same day and the same time as us. I just don’t want to plan for a year for something and then have it go wrong. The nice thing about this situation is our venue is practically free and we don’t have a very large budget. I know the Garden of the Gods Club has venues you can rent out, but the scenery isn’t as nice and is pretty pricey. My fiance’s solution that he came up with is have group transportation and also have one of our friends go there early to set up/stake it out. I’d really rather not have to have one of my friends do this, but I would honestly do it for anyone else. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks!

I like your FH’s suggestion but make sure the person who is going to do it is okay with it. You could also hire someone to do it for you (any cousins in high school?)

I looked on their website and they have a wedding brochure and catering packages. Are you wanting to have you ceremony there, but not your reception? Would you run the risk of having bride with an event catered there using the grounds?

Garden of the Gods is AMAZING!!! And you’re going to have awesome pictures. I think your fiance has a pretty good plan. Even if you only have 1 or 2 friends that are close, but aren’t in the wedding party, set up shop… I think it would work. Also build in extra time after the ceremony, before the reception just in case anything happens. If everything goes smoothly, having an extra half hour won’t hurt!

@kshult13: Yeah people do this at the larger parks around CA too. I like @beachbride1216‘s idea of slipping some younger cousin’s a few bucks to do it for you (assuming they are reliable!).

thanks. Now I just have to find someone to bribe! He wanted to have one of our friends in the wedding party do it, but I don’t really like that idea. Actually one of our friends has a teenage kid I could probably bribe to sit for an hour. Thanks!
