We are having an outdoor wedding in the woods behind our house. I want to set up some speakers/have a microphone because I don’t see the point in having a ceremony if your guests can’t hear it. I have ways of getting a generator…but how can I set up a very minimal sound system to be able to have a microphone for the minister/musician? Thanks!!!!

If you’re close enough you can run an extension cord (get one with 3 power outlets on the end). Set up 2 speakers, plug and play and daisy chain the XLRS straight into the speakers.
2 speakers w/ stands
2 power adapters for speakers
1 100ft XLR to connect speakers
1 50-100 ft XLR to connect mike to speaker
1 Mike w/ stand and clip
power cables- number depends on how far the woods are from your house.

You can just buy a small PA system from someplace like Amazon. We just bought one for work, it came with the mic, lapel mic and headset. We use it for mid to large trainings, etc. The unit itself can be plugged in or run on batteries, which would make it even easier for you – and about as minimal as you can get. Here’s the unit we bought to give you an idea: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0031TK5P2/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details The only thing I would recommend is that you make sure that you place it up a bit higher than your guests either on some kind of stand or ledge or something, so the sound doesn’t just get muffled on the first people it hits.

@SugerPlum: You can rent portable PA systems. They run on internal batteries, no cords, no wires. Just call down to your local rental equipment store and they will have them or they will give you the number to a audio rental store. It is quick and simple, all that I have seen give you instructions.
