Looks like we are in same boat. hahahha. are you going to to go the weddng expo in January. i am. that way i can get all the info i need !!! =) good luck to you! i will let you know what i find out. im getting married in June!
@LNT: we will DEFINITELY be there! although, i just told my boss that i would need that weekend off and she was pretty upset LOL (i work as a bridal consultant at a couture bridal boutique - convenient, right?? haha - and january is one of our busiest months :P oops!). but i def can't miss it.
oh well!! you are getting married!! you have to go!!! i cant wait!!! =)im going to book a hotel soon. just dont know where yet, as i have never been there! lol. some of my girls are coming with me. good luck!
Hi --
Did you go to the Expo? I did. I had a good time =)
I booked the Whale Head Club for our ceremony and we will be having a reception dinner afterwards at Aqua. Our officiant will be Dr. Dave. he was super nice. and I found a photographer while doing my own research ( didnt find her at the expo) www.photographybyrenee.com so far I have dealt with her through emails and she is super nice and greatly priced. and I really like her pictures. especially the ones under her destination tab.
I didnt want to get married on Sunday, i wanted monday, but the whalehead club was only available on a sunday =(
soooo... what did you find out when you went to the expo? I actually didnt get any info from the expo. i already knew where i wanted to get married. and i found the reception site/ officiant during the saturday tour.
so excited!!! like 5 1/2 months left to go!
i DID go to the expo!!!!
We booked the WILD HORSE!!!!!!!!! i am BEYOND excited - not sure if you guys made it out there during the tours on saturday (it's the 23-bedroom twiddy event home in the 4x4 area), but it's AMAZING! We were a little scared to do the 4x4 area, but it turns out all the vendors can get out there easily, and there are plenty of transportation options for our guests to get out there too :)
I totally originally wanted the whalehead club - I go to Corolla every year, and it just doesn't get any more beautiful than that park :) you made an awesome choice!! We went with the house since we can have the ceremony, reception, rehearsal, plus all our family and wedding party staying in one spot.
We liked Dr. Dave too!! plus, I have a weird obsession with DJ Bruce and with Renee Landry LOL, so we have our DJ and floral/decor designer all set too - and i still have over a year and a half till my wedding! haha. as for my photographer, a friend of mine from high school is actually a photographer who does weddings, so i'm going with her :) (www.icaimages.com). lastly, we are definitely gonna go with great cakes! for our cake. that key lime cake was soooo good! still stuck on catering, BUT we are leaning heavily towards doing a big ol' carolina barbeque with currituck bbq company - they can do a feast of food for $28/per person.
i'm really glad to hear you had a great time, and found your spot!!! it's soooo beautiful! the big day will be here before you know it :) good luck!
OH! and we decided on a friday wedding, since the house is a sunday-sunday rental :) i'm all about not doing it on a saturday - who cares! we'll be at the beach! hahaha
yay!! so excited for you! ive seen pictures of that house before. BEAUITFUL! i have some very colorful people in my family, so its best we are all separated! hahaha.
yes im so excited for our wedding. it will all come together. im not stressin. whatever happens happens. and now since its on Sunday, we can get it out of the way ( like its a bad thing hahahha) and then relax the rest of our stay!
whooohoooooooooo!! we are getting married =) congrats to you and your wedding will be awesome!
Congrats ya'll!!! :) I'm getting married On Ocean Isle Beach...Ive never been to the Outer Banks..but we are thinking about hanging there after the wedding... for our honeymoon! We are actually thinking about going to alot of different areas and not sticking to one spot.. From the pictures Ive seen online...the Outer Banks are beautiful!!!!
@lfair3iw: just a word of warning, i live about an hour away from the outerbanks. they are beautiful but planning a wedding there in september is a huge gamble. thats prime hurricane season! my fiances best friend had wedding planned for the third week in sept this year and that was right in the middle of a tropical storm. they were devestated. hurricanes and tropical storms tend to become an issue in the fall. its hurricane season all summer long but you dont actually see the hurricanes until the water temp is warmer than the air temp. so when the outside temps start falling into the 70's and the water is still around 80, you get your hurricanes. even thought its hotter, it might be a better idea to make it earlier in the summer. just a thought. ive lived here for 27 years....
also have an awesome photographer to recommend.
www.augusttphotography.com hes amazing and his prices are unbelieveable.
@kristenl: While I appreciate the concern, I would not consider any other time to get married at the outer banks. I've been vacationing there for about 15 years with my family (we actually always go down in september as of late), and I know how INSANE it is during the summer - to put it lightly, there is no way in HELL i would ever get married there during the peak months of summer :) haha. Not to mention that the 4x4 beaches tend to be super torn up during the peak months because of all the traffic. We briefly considered early May, but the water is still freezing then, and we want our guests to still be able to enjoy the beach and the ocean if they are going to make the trip down.
Ultimately, we have picked september 28th as the date. Trust me when I say that I did ALOT of research and consulting of native obx-ers before arriving at this conclusion. I looked back at hurricane data and storm tracks for the past 15 years (yes, really LOL), and there was not a single hurricane or tropical storm to make landfall on the outer banks after september 23rd (knock on wood) - they seem to stay in the atlantic the further into fall you get. I know noreasters were an abnormal nuisance last year in october, but they don't generally evac for those. SO, while I do appreciate the warning, I am pretty confident in my choice :) the bottom line is that the weather and water temps in september and october can't be beat, and I wouldn't even consider any other time of year.
Also, thanks for the photographer tip, but I already have a friend who is a professional photographer here in DC doing our photos :) thanks anyway!!
I actually went to a wedding at the currituck club last summer. It was nice but really hot. It was in July. The ceremony was on the beach and then the reception was held outdoors at the club. It was nicely done but again WAAAAAAY to hot. Even thought it was evening time the humidity killed a lot of us.
@misslego: EXACTLY. the heat is yet another factor. being over-heated would definitely make my inner bride-zilla come out in full force :) lol
@LNT - I live on the OBX but am likely having a DE wedding (From DE) Too funny!
not sure how new this post is, but we're getting married in Corolla in October 2012!

We want to do an outer banks wedding in late september, in corolla.
any other bees out there done an outer banks (or better yet, a corolla) wedding??? I would LOVE to get tips on venues, florists, make-up/hair, caterers/planners....basically I need guidance with everything except the photog - i already have one in mind :)
right now, my top two venue choices would be the whalehead club, or the currituck club.
also, we were thinking of doing a THURSDAY wedding, since all the rental homes in the obx are saturday to saturday OR sunday to sunday, and since most guests will be there for the whole week, we figured thursday wouldn't be a biggie. thoughts??? personal experience???
thanks in advance for any help/advice anyone can give me! :D
