White lights are really effective at night. They photograph well too. And candles are always a great way to add atmosphere.

Votive candles in bulk, dollartree.com has cheap vases, save on crafts has a bunch of vase fillers, petals for outside and other random decorations. There are so many ways to make things less expensive.

What are some of the things you would like to do/incorporate into your wedding/reception?

I am in the same boat as you.  I am thinking nature as the backdrop with a few additions to compliment it.  I really want the guests to feel like they are in a wonderful peaceful place, so I am planning on taking the next year to purchase wind chimes of all shapes and sizes (maybe even make some on my own) and hang them from the trees that will surround our wedding site.

Outdoors in the evening screams candlelight!

Check out Mrs. Cherry Pie’s blog, her reception was outdoors – they used old vegetable cans, punched holes in them and put votives in there, they were beautiful.   You can also buy the supplies to make your own candles.  You can start collecting jars from jelly, peanut butter, salsa, even check out flea markets & goodwill and you could fill these jars with your own homemade candles.

I also agree that twinkle lights are beautiful.  Paper lanterns are very in right now, and elegant.

You can highlight with some submerged blooms in water with floating candles & rocks or petals on the tables.

Cheap table runners and napkins can dress up a table quickly as well.
