I get square, BUT the ends are slightly filed so it's not as "harsh" to me. :)
I get square with rounded edges. When I have gotten just square in the past, I always end up scratching myself :)
i have weird nails, so i keep them square so they don't grow all funny. I think they look nicer, too. Less like talons, haha.
I always get mine square. I think they look funny when they are rounded lol. No offense to anyone who has theirs done that way! lol
Squoval (yes it is a real term used by nail technicians). But since that isn't an option with your poll, I would go with square. Squoval is the technical term for square with the rounded edges so they don't snag on anything. I personally don't like the look of oval.

My mom has VERY oval nails, lol, but they look elegant on her long thin fingers. Not so much on mine.
My nails are always all different lengths (my pinky and ring finger nails actually get long since I never use those fingers, the rest stay stubby), and to me getting them squared always looks funny. I think having them rounded when some are pretty shurt looks a little mroe natural.
I get square with rounded edges, 4/5 of my fingers grow out square naturally anyway, just my index fingers are more naturally oval shaped (I must be some kind of square fingered freak!!). That's really the only nail they have to fiddle with to shape it!
Squoval all the way! If you have really long slender fingers I think oval can look very elegant but in general I do think of it as an 'older' look.
I get what my manicurist calls a "soft square" it is square, but very slightly rounded across the top with rounded tips. It doesn't have the harsh square look, and I don't end up scratching myself.

I think soft square looks a lot more modern and youthful. I find oval a dated look and reminds me of my mom's generation.
I have mine rounded. It's the closest to my natural nail shape.
I don't get my nails done, but I file them straight across and round the corners. A "soft square," I guess!

oval! the way i see it is that the square one looks more "rough" and the oval one looks more elegant and sophisticated.
I always get oval. To me the square look always means fake nails... I have nice long natural nails, and the soft rounded look of an oval always seems normal. I love getting a good mani/pedi! Have fun!
I rarely get mine done, but I get squoval when I do. I just love that word--squoval! Teehee
I really like a square shape with a bit of rounding...I like them very short, the "American" french.

When I have acrylics or gel, I get "squoval"
When I have natural nails, I get rounded, because if I get square, my nails rip at the corner.
You girls are too funny! I didn't even click on the picture to check... but I was looking through the pics and it was like "french mani, french mani, french mani, nipple, french mani, french mani.... WAIT?!?!?! WHAT?!?!?!"

If my nails are long at the time, then I get squoval. If my nails are short, then I get round. I think squoval looks weird on short nails. I've never had fake nails before, but I would get squoval if I did have them.
I have totally learned a new word today! Squoval may be the answer to my dilema - and thanks for the great pic @sapphirebride! I feel like when my nails are short, round looks the most natural, and when they're longer I'll get square. I think square looks more "finished" - like you can tell you had a manicure, but the other side of that coin is that it looks less natural. At the same time, I agree that oval looks a little old fashioned, and on my hands I find it looks odd with a french manicure. Squoval may be the comprimise that I've been searching for :) Thanks bees!
square with softer corners. this is mainly because i wear contacts and don't need to stab myself in the eye.

I see I'm in the minority, but rounded, always rounded. There's something kind of unnatural looking about square nails, and I always end up scratching myself on anything even remotely pointy.

Simple question - when you get a manicure, do you have them shape your nails oval or square at the ends? They say square is younger looking (?) and I waffle between thinking that square looks more "done" and thinking that it looks unnatural... What do you think?
