So I’m at work, and we’re back inside now, but about an hour and a half ago (ish) a fire broke out downstairs in the men’s bathroom and we were all evacuated. In a separate incident, a pipe burst over our building’s main lobby and flooded that. In addition, our second and third floors are pouring water from the ends connected to the lobby and the flooding is moving this way (reportedly coming from a pipe that was used to put out the fire?? This is unconfirmed, and I suspect unrelated because the lobby is nowhere near the place of the fire).
We’ve been back inside for about 30 minutes, and nobody has seen fit to send us home, despite the water steadily creeping our way. I hope they’ve gotten it under control (our co-workers down the hall were hastily unplugging and yanking computers/phones/etc., from the desks to get them away from the water), but dang, guys. For real? It’s cool, there was a fire and flood, but just carry on (nevermind they close down for an inch of snow on the ground and clear roads, mind you).
We already had to stand outside for what felt like forever in -5 wind chill while they put out the fire.
I’m so over this day. In 40 minutes I can leave and go the F home, hopefully not to find my own burst pipes and flooding. How about the rest of you, how is your polar vortex Tuesday going?
