Maybe you could some friends to help and then it won't feel so overwhelming. It is a beautiful backyard, so just imagine how much more beautiful it will be when your finished! You can do it!
I agree that would be an amazing place! Hang in there! It will be beautiful and pay off in the end! But that is a lot to DIY! Good Luck! The Hive is a great place for support and ideas!
lol. Um, my DIY list keeps reproducing! It's like I finish a project and it mates and three more come from that one project! AGGHHH
But, the good news: I have a almost two years to finish everything.
I already have my STD made and sitting in the box until I can send them. I also ordered all my wedding invite supplies so I can start working on it. I have my cardbox made and almost finish. But, I decided to DIY my own flowers and bm comestic bags..and the programs..and than the aisle markers, runner, and the altar...But, I don't feel like I'm drowning yet. Give me a year ;) I might be asking for a life saver since I'll be about five miles out in the diy ocean!
I think the biggest challenge is going to make the beach look presentable and level for the wedding. It might take awhile to pack down sand and level it out esp since most of our beach have not been fixed from the country and there is a lot of erosion happening. I really think I'm getting in over my head with that one but I can't hire someone because they won't let you use your own decorations and ideas because of "insurance" reasons for DOC who do beach weddings.
I Think you will be able to make that yard amazing! There so much you can do :)
That sounds like it's going to be gorgeous!
I agree with the ladies above, have a party and invite friends over to help, make it fun!
That place looks gorgeous! Invite everyone over to help, then make them some dinner and wine!
Worst case scenario, scrounge up a few hundred bucks and pay a landscaper or gardener!

I'm not engaged yet and my SO and I haven't had a full-blown wedding discussion (we've been stuck at "when I can finally sell this house and put a ring on your finger..." and "I wish this short sale would go through so I could start saving more money" for about six months), but I'm pre-planning for fear that I won't be able to pull everything together during a short engagement. A bad thing? I think not.
Especially when I plan on DIYing the invitations, programs, food, cake, decorations, playlists....oh. And the reception site.
My parents have a pretty big backyard. It would be great for the intimate (*cost effective*) spring wedding I'm envisioning, except for the part where it's a weedy overgrown mess. Case in point:
Yeah.
So that's why I have been relandscaping the backyard since March! It's my giant, crazy, I'm-determined-to-have-a-wedding-in-spite-of-financial-insecurity project!
It's looking a lot better than that now, but there are still days when I'm cutting down mulberries and wrestling with python-esque poison ivy vines and I think to myself..."why the heck am I bothering to do this?"
Then I remember. Oh yeah. I don't have the monies. And my parent's house is literally a five minute walk from the church.
Has anyone else felt waaaaay over their head with wedding projects? What's the biggest challenge you took on to make your wedding day happen?
