Photobooth....I hear about them all the time online but have only been to 1 wedding that has had one....and it wasnt even one with props
I would say candy buffets, photo booths, and cupcakes. I have only been to 1 wedding with a candy buffet and I have never seen either a photo booth or cupcakes. I'm doing the candy buffet and cupcakes I'm sure most of my guests will have never seen either before.
I've only been to 4 weddings in my life and the last wedding I was at was at least 7 years ago, so I may not be the best person to talk about real life weddings and can certainly not speak about 'trends' but I've never seen a "rustic" wedding or mix and match anything or a photobooth, or a wishing tree, or really anything that seems at all kitzchy.
All the weddings I've been to have been very standard and traditional in every way. Traditional vows and music, traditional dress/BM's, traditional activities (bouquet, toasts, garter), traditional cake and food. My own was the first wedding I've been to where anything was done remotely different.
I want to have all 3 at my wedding!.. Do you think you would be excited to see them then?...Or would you think that is an "old trend"
I agree with all of those. We had a photobooth and had to explain what it was there for to several people :).
I think some of those "trends" might be regional. The photobooth thing is definitely overdone in the Boston area (I feel like every single friend of mine from HS who posts their wedding pics on facebook has a photobooth), but I attended 3 weddings in the midwest this summer and there wasn't a photobooth in sight. At the same time, the candy buffet thing I've seen at 2 weddings I went to in NY, but I've never seen it done in the Boston area.
Yeah.. I have never been to a wedding with a candy buffet (or any variation kind of special buffet) or photobooth.
Must be a thing we haven't picked up on here in the UK..
Pretty much everything seen in wedding blog land I have never seen in real life.
All the weddings for my family and friends are very traditional-church, reception hall , wedding cake, matching BM dresses, traditional activities.
We are having an outdoor wedding, reception at an old casino, cupcakes, photobooth, no bouquet/garter toss, and stations instead of a plated meal. But we are still keeping some traditions like a first dance :)
I guess same for me as OP: Candy Buffet, Photobooth & cupcakes. Although the cupcakes were just part of the candy buffet. Must not be TOO outdone since we made it onto SMP website anyway! He he! The guests LOVE ALL 3!
Every. Single. Wedding I've been to in the past 4 years had a cupcake tower. I'm so over it.
I'm jaded by the candy buffet because the one wedding I went to that had it did not have enough candy for everyone! Yet he claimed he had SO much left over. Well way to not refill the vases then!
CUPCAKES!
Maybe it's me, but I really like cupcakes at birthdays or parties, but not for a wedding. I just love the look of a real cake at a wedding. It will never go out of style.
Rustic/vintage chic seems to be a HUGE trend that I've never seen in a wedding. I'm tired of looking at it on blogs, especially since I have yet to actually see it in real life.
Definitely anything I see on blogs, I think of as "overdone", but I have rarely seen at weddings...
I did tissue paper poms, cupcakes, and a cake topper from etsy that looked like us... Mainly all of these were because of budget, or in the case of the cake topper, I just liked it... but EVERYONE at our wedding was so blown away and shocked... they had never seen these before!
Likewise, I have yet to attend a wedding with a candy buffet!!
We plan to have a candy buffet at our wedding as both the FI and I love our sweets. I'm also doing a unique guestbook (that I've never seen before) and sparklers instead of rice/bubbles after our afternoon ceremony. Only one of the 4 weddings I've been to had a photobooth and that was the FSILs wedding a few summers back. I like the photobooth idea but its not in our budget.
We are doing a rustic/vintage themed wedding and the first one I have ever been to was 2 weekends ago and it was AMAZING... furthering my excitement to do our own rustic theme. I have never been to a wedding with cupcakes, candy buffet or photobooth. We are doing sparklers and a few different things in ours that I haven't seen at anyone elses!
I have seen the wishing tree at a couple of them and it looks really cute!
I've actually been to a ton of weddings with photobooths this year. We're having a candy buffet and while I've seen a ton online, I've never been to a wedding with one. Even if these things are kind of overdone, it's fun, so I think it's worth it if people enjoy it. Most things about weddings are not totally original, so it doesn't really bother me if something is considered trendy.
I'm also letting my BMs choose their own dresses and while I see that all the time on WB and on blogs, most people I've talked to have said they've never seen it before. I don't think I've ever been to a wedding with totally different BM dresses, either.
My guests were so surprised by my red shoes! And that doesn't seem all that unique to me. :)
Also, they loved the concept of our sweetheart table. Again, not unique, but most of our guests had never seen one.

What things are you constantly told online that is overdone in some circles (and made to have you beleive it's true of everyone everywhere) but that you and/or your guests have never seen or heard of or seen in real life?
