I am in a gigantic funk this week. I am currently just about 41 weeks and feel like this little one is never going to come out. I am scheduled to be induced later this week and am so disappointed. I’m sad that I won’t get to make the exciting call to my husband that the baby is coming, or sit around feeling the first twinges of labor and run around the house like a crazy woman, making excited phone calls to people on the way to the hospital.
I am so tired of everybody answering my phone calls with “did you have the baby?” NO!!! I didn’t, and I’m well aware of it. This wait is harder for no one than me and my husband.
I am just generally bummed. The doc told me she didn’t think I’d make it until Wednesday, but I’ve got my serious doubts. I’ve been dilated at a 1-2 for weeks with prodromal labor…and nothing ever happens. So I give up.
Anyone else been in this boat? I could really use some encouragement. I just feel like sitting around and crying.

My baby was born 6 days late!
They said they would let me go up to 42 weeks overdue, I was prepared to argue for doing induction on the very last day they would let me go. (I strongly beleive that the baby will come when it’s ready, I did NOT want to be induced.)
When I was overdue, I had a doctor appointment on Wednesday, he scheduled a non-stress test for me on Monday but told me “I have to schedule this because it’s policy to do this test if you’re overdue to let you keep going, but you’ll be cancelling it, I’ll see you this weekend!” And he was right, I had my baby on Saturday.
For what it’s worth, Harvard says the gestation period of a human is 41w1d, not 40w.
Some things you can try: walking, having sex (both the orgasm and the semen can help kick-start labor), nipple stimulation, and evening primrose oil both orally and vaginally.

I’m still 10 days out from my due date and I already feel like this. If I’m late, I will have to schedule an induction because I don’t get formal maternity leave and can only depend on the kindness of others for so long… but I really want to have a natural birth. I understand your frustration, but really… you’re giving birth all the same whether it’s spontaneous or planned. Good luck!

Hang in there! Same thing happened to my best friend. She has to end up being induced which wasn’t what she wanted. But you know what? After the fact she could care less that it had to go that route because it meant her baby was born that day. I know it may seem like a big deal right now but once you welcome your baby into the world it will be the furthest thing from your mind. Keep positive, the little one still might make an appearance on his own!

Aw, I’m so sorry. You’ve been so patient.
None of the suggestions started labor for me, but making a list of all the things to accomplish the next day did–I never did do those things…
And i was only at 2 cm the day I went into labor, so don’t let that get you down.

I was a month late! Apparently nothing was starting labor for my mom and they didn’t want to induce her because of some health problems? Not totally sure.
Just hang in there honey! Before you know it your little one will be here and all of it will be well worth it!

Thanks for all your encouragement! I was feeling pretty down.
I can’t even believe I’m typing this but I’m pretty sure I’m in early labor!!! I felt a few contractions earlier so we went for a walk. They always pick up and get stronger when I walk, then stop when I get home and sit down, so I was expecting the same. But they’re not stopping. I’m pretty sure I’m losing my mucus plug in pieces and am having some bloody show.
I can’t stop crying. I don’t want this to be false and stop. I don’t know why I can’t stop crying!

@mrsmjm: I hope this is it!! Just remember, you can do this! It will be the best work and so worth it when you hold your little one for the first time.

Hang in there bee, just had a good friend going through the same thing last week. She was 2 days away from being induced and labor started…she was only walking around 1cm.

Hope this is it for you 🙂 Good luck! Just think, you’ll be meeting your little one very soon 🙂

@mrsmjm: I am so sorry! Just because you are overdue now doesn’t mean that you won’t go into labor naturally. Some babies just need a little longer to grow and develop. My sister was 9lbs 10 oz and came via a planned c-section at 39 wees, but was considered a premie after she came out. She had fur and needed special formula to help her digestive track develop. The doctors guessed she needed 2-3 more weeks to grow (but my mom was happy to have her out).
Best of luck!

I have a friend that swears up and down that she has induced 3 of her 5 children by rubbing her nipples for like five hours. Lol. And her last two were born in between 38-39 weeks because she swears she was just done and baby was done cooking. Worth a try, right?
I’m not pregnant, but I cannot imagine how unformfortable you are! Big hugs. FX it happens soon!
