I need help!  My parents got us a king size bed (mattress, not frame) as a wedding gift.  It's ginormous!  It's a plush pillow top - which makes it larger than the average size bedding.  For Christmas, my mom bought us bedding for the monster, but none of it fits!  After much scouring on CB2, Target, and Bed Bath and Beyond, I couldn't find anything I both liked and would fit.  Does anyone know where I can find an oversized king comforter???

PS - our colors are Light and Charcoal grey, light yellow, and mustard yellow.  Thanks!!!!

Maybe JC penny? They usually have a big selection of bedding and sheets.

I don't know if I've ever seen oversized King.... but they DO sell deep pocket sheets and such which are made for pillow top beds.

@KLP2010: My mom did actually find the deep pocket sheets and they fit perfectly.  Now it's just time to find something to cover them! :)

When you search look for the term "California King." usually those sizes run a bit larger.

California King beds are longer than regular King sized beds, but they're not as wide, so it won't help covering the sides of the bed.  I have the same issue with our king size bed...if you do find a solution, let me know!

We have a similar king matress (I'm kind of a matress snob and love my super comfy pillow tops).  The deep pocket sheets also worked for us.

What do you mean when you say the comforter doesn't fit?  We added a matress pad in addition to the pillow top so ours is way thicker than normal and a standard king comforter still covers it.  It just doesn't hang down as far on the sides.  Is that your concern?  It isn't hanging down far enough?  I'll second mrs.peters.to.be's suggestion of maybe getting a California King comforter.

I found ours at Target but that JUST covers the entire thing. I would try Overstock.com or PotteryBarn.com <--- that store can be VERY expensive but I LOVE it and have been eyeing a few comforters from there! Also try Sears.

California King is 84" long x 72" wide

Standard King is 80" long x 76" wide.

You can see that the California King is longer but a Standard King is wider, so it depends on where you want the extra inches that will make the difference in what you purchase.

A standard King size Duvet is 90"x 108"

A standard King size flat sheet is 108"x102"

You can make your own duvet cover by top stitching 2 flat sheets together(velcro the bottom edge) and slide your duvet into the cover. You will then have 12 extra inches  of width and the same length.

I presume you  will want it to coordinate with your sheets. I would pick a neutral gray and pick up the other colors in accent pillows and a throw across the foot of the bed.

I got us a bed-in-a-bag set at Bed Bath & Beyond with a comforter that fits just fine, with plenty of overhang. It was about $200, but it was on sale, came with 2 sheet sets, window valances, and the bedskirt, comforter, and decorative pillows are all reversable. We also have a king with a pillow top. It's awesome, except when it comes to trying to make the bed by yourself.

I have the same problem! We have a pillow-top king mattress (LOVE IT!!) and have great deep-fit sheets, but our comforter only extends on either side about 4-5 inches. I wake up during the night sometimes and have hardly any left, since my husband pulled it closer towards him. LOL I want a wider comforter, too!!

@Mrs.KMM: I'm a total bed snob too, which is what got me into this predicament!  Yes, my concern is that it doesn't hang down far enough.  The one she ordered for me barely covered the top of the bed!  It only hung down like an inch or so on each side.

For those of you with the same issue, I'll be sure to let you know!  I did check overstock and they had great stuff.  BUt, everything that would match our decor didn't quite fit.

@julies1949: Maybe that's why mine is fine!  I have a King duvet/duvet cover instead of a King comforter.  OP - maybe that would solve your problem?

My original purchase was a duvet cover.  But, the insert for it was super short.  Then, to find the size I thought I needed would have been crazy expensive and since it was a gift, I didn't want to get greedy.

I finally broke down and called my dad who sells the brand of mattress we got (Sterns and Foster - AMAZING!) and got the dimensions.  I found out I need something that's 110 inches wide. (that's bolded b/c I know some of you were also wondering!)  Suprisingly enough, the widths vary so much from brand to brand, even comforter/duvet to comforter/duvet.  I finally found one from Dillards that both matches what I have and will fit!  Hooray!!

Great that you found something. Not sure why you had to phone your dad to get the measurements of your mattress- width plus twice the depth of the mattress =the total width you need for the comforter(minimum).

@julies1949: Because I was scouring the internet at work looking for bedding and was too impatient to wait until I got home to measure the bed itself.
