New poster, but have been lurking.
This is Not Wedding Related but I didn’t know which section to put it in.
I live in Seattle. The city is in mourning today as 5 of 6 shooting victims have died from yesterday’s craziness, and the suspect killed himself as well.
Here is the news story: http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Community-shocked-angered-over-Wednesdays-outburst-of-violence-155886145.html
I have been a mess for the last 23 hours (when this whole incident began).
My home is shown several times in one of the zones locked down by police as they searched for the suspect. (News crews were broadcasting live from helicopters above my home.) This has been absolutely unreal. Except, it IS real.
Police trampled my yard, busted into my neighbor’s garage, locked down schools in the area, etc.
They found the shooter about two hours after I returned home from work. News crews were swarming the neighborhood until very late last night.
It was impossible to sleep, even AFTER they linked the shooter to BOTH scenes of violence yesterday. (Initially they were searching for two different people.)
Friends of mine know two of the victims from the cafe.
Another friend was related to one of the victims.
One week ago, two gang members were shooting at each other from across the street. A bullet hit an innocent man while driving in his car with his children and his parents. He is dead as well. 🙁 This happened a few blocks from my parents’ home in Seattle, and I was on route to go see them for dinner at the time, just blocks away from the shooting.
These kinds of events make me want to lock myself (along with my dog and my SO) in my home and never leave again.
But I know I’m not safe in my home, either.
None of us are actually safe, anywhere. We just THINK these things wont happen to us.
The city is eerily quiet today as everyone reflects in their own way about the victims, the shooter, and everything.
I am a panicky mess.
While on my bus to work this morning, a cop car passed us with the siren on. EVERYONE on the bus tensed up and we all were wondering “what now?!!!”
A few weeks ago we were named in the top ten safest cities to live..
We’re at 22 murders for this year so far. Last year we had 20, total.
Please keep our city in your thoughts.
(Short term: Please tell me something happy to focus on. Because I am so scared and sad right now I can’t even think coherently.)
