What about the Baby Jogger or Mountain Buggy? They’re meant to be very sturdy and can be bought cheaply secondhand on ebay.

We got the baby jogger city mini gt.  Our baby isn’t here yet, but based on all the reviews, it seems like a good all around stroller.  They just released the 2014 models in stores, so the 2013 is cheaper at around $245 on amazon or $277 at babies r us compared to $350 for the 2014 model.  http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Jogger-Single-Stroller-Shadow/dp/B006QH45BG

globalmargaret:   To me, the Bobs, Baby Jogger Summit and strollers like that are a 2nd stroller and you’d still need a small every day stroller for shopping and such.  I don’t think it is realistic to have that if you live in the suburbs and need to fold it up and down and put it in and out of the car.  We aren’t hard core runners/hikers/etc so I feel like the city mini gt will be fine.  The baby jogger city mini elite has a little big bigger of a tire if that is what you are looking for, but it is also 5 or 6 lbs heavier.

What I suggest is reading all the review you can find and test driving them at the store. You’ll figure it out!

I think you should just stalk other mothers in your community and see what they’re using! I think where you’re using it a lot on sand and gravel, you’re in the specialty stroller market. Even here with lots of ice and snow, it was hard to find a stroller that really worked well for winter conditions.
