I started my 7-day Aquafresh Whitening trays today and my teeth are KILLING me.  I had a cavity filled on the back of one of my front teeth about 7 months ago and that tooth especially hurts A LOT.

My MOH mentioned that she was going to buy a teeth whitening kit so I think I'll give her the rest of this one b/c I can't imagine how much they will hurt if I continue Cry

Has anyone else experienced this?  How long will it take for the pain to go away?  It's been 4 hours!!

try holding warm salt-water in your mouth. If the pain doesn't cease by morning I'd give the dentist a call.

Just last week I started teeth whitening trays, too! After four days, I stopped. I used the generic Target ones because they were half the cost and had the same ingredients. They worked really well for the first two days (stayed put and everything) and then they really started to irritate my gums! As in, they started to get really sore and bleed. I visit the dentist regularly, so I know it wasn't gum disease or anything. I lasted two more days and I had to stop. After 24 hours of not using them, I was back to normal. My teeth were probably a shade or two whiter, so it wasn't a total waste of time!

I've tried to use whitening products in the past and this has always been the result.  My teeth hurt SO badly.  I'm not really sure what to do beyond not using them anymore.  I'd really like to get mine professionaly whitened before the wedding, but I'm not sure I could handle the pain!

If you space out the strips - so use 1 every other day or every few days - you can get the same results with less pain.  also use lower strength version - eg Crest regular not premium.  I have a LOT of pain with these products which was why I ultimately canceled the professional whitening - I just couldn't stand the idea of that much pain!

Thanks <span style="font-size: x-small; color: #81a026;">sminerva21 , I now have hope that the pain will go away at some point.

<span style="font-size: x-small; color: #81a026;">nybride09 - Don't let this scare you.  FH has been using strips for the past two weeks and has been fine.  I just have super-sensitive front teeth.  They are REALLY thin so I really shoud've known better!

I've heard that the zoom light also hurts.  I've used the crest strips and didn't have a problem just can't remember to keep up with it.  I guess it hurts because your are weaking the enamel.  Any dental people out there?

We started using a teeth whitner that my sister the dentist suggested - it's called Liquid Smile.  No trays.  Just brush on your teeth - it looks like a lip gloss tube.  It works really well and she said it was better than anything OTC.  My mom says its only $20, but when you look it up online on the Liquid Smile website it says it's over$100 so I'm not sure.  Ask your dentist friends to hook you up - its fabulous and I have super sensitive teeth and I've been pain free with it!  Otherwise, no suggestions as I've never tried anything else.

I have a take at home teeth whitening kit from my dentist, so I know what you're feeling and it SUCKS! my dentist told me to brush my teeth alot, sensodyn or the new colgate sensitive will also add to it.

The pain hurts, but white teeth are beauties!

I called my dentist yesterday and they told me that I should brush with sensodyne and if I was still in pain, I should call them in the morning.

I brushed with sensodyne (ProNamel) when I got home from work and took some excedrin.  I don't know which helped but my teeth felt better for a few hours.  They started hurting again before bed so I took another excedrin, brushed my teeth again and went to bed.  This morning they feel 1000X better!!  They are still a little sensitive but NOTHING compared to how they felt yesterday!

I think my teeth will remain their current shade of off-white for the wedding, it's just not worth it.

Yep - buy some sensodyne and brush your teeth with it, it does help a little bit! I've noticed discomfort in the past with using Whitestrips Plus, or Premium...whatever it is called...and I've ignored it for the most part and the pain has gone awaya fter a day or so...I'm a glutton for punishment, but I like it when my teeth are so white in the end!

My fiance had his teeth whitened with Zoom recently and experienced quite a bit of pain as well. Apparently it's because the whitening process removes a protein on your teeth that protects them, and without it some people experience pain. He said it was like being randomly electrocuted in his mouth (flashes of sensitivity). It stopped about 2 days after the procedure, so it's likely if you stop using the strips the pain will go away.

A big key is to not put the strips on after you've brushed your teeth. Your teeth are always more sensitive after you brush, and the whitening causes further sensitivity. If you are feeling pain, you should space them out more. I talked to my dentist prior to using the whitening strips, and he gave me the above tips!

Also, the sensodyne doesn't work right away. Its active ingredient is potassium nitrate, which penetrates into your teeth over a period of about two weeks to block the sensitive nerve endings. My dentist told me to not expect overnight response with the sensodyne.

I always brush my teeth with sensodyne about a week (sometimes more) before I use the whitening stuff - that helps and I try to keep my face away from the cold! :)

I had my teeth whitened awhile ago and it went away after about 5 days. So, once you're done whitening, give it a week for the sensitivity to subside.

I am doing the same; my teeth get sensitive if I do it back to back so I give it  a rest; it also hurts if I just brush my teet I didnt beleive it and lo and behold they hurt

so I'm doing it once a day rather than twice a day my teeth look whiter now

it has hydrogen peroxide they same component they use to bleach the hair

I also saw sodium hydroxide; when I used to do my chemistry class we were always warned not to get in contact with it because it burns; probably why it hurts probably a low strength but can still hurt
