Anyone else doing P90X, it's a workout regime and diet/lifestyle change and it is kicking my booty. I used to use Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease, but it just got too repetitive. If anyone is looking for a good workout regimine P90X is it... but remember to just start out at 5-15 reps (whilst the fit peeps are doing 20-30).

I think you may be confused, or I don't understand what you're talking about.

When you first start out it doesn't matter how many you can do, it's what you can do.  And if you're doing weight that will only allow 5-8 reps you'll bulk up... so to stay lean and define you want to do a min. of 15-20. Slow and heavy = bulk.  Quick and many = quick and lean

I was talking about reps as in for anything like pull ups push ups etc. It's not all weights. So I think I may have confused you. You're supposed to build up to do the crazy amount of reps. I do use low weight/high number of reps when I do use the weights, but P90X isn't just a "weight program".

FI is doing P90X and in almost 3 weeks he has lost 7 lbs and I can already see a difference!! I have done some of the work outs and it is KILLER!!! I dont really need to lose any weight but I would like to tone a ltitle bit more so this week I am going to start doing more ofthe work outs. Since FI cooks all his meals based on P90X Im almost eating by way of the diet...except I still have snacks of my own! It is really hard but it really works!!

I agree we are almost done with week 3 and I've lost 8 lbs! I feel way more in shape! :o) The diet is kind of hard for the first week, but after a week or two I find myself just knowing what I should and shouldn't eat. P.S. Really looking forward to Phase 2 with an extra serving of carbs!

P90X is INSANE!!! I have never had anything kick my butt so hard before!! It's one of the best programs out there, but it's difficult.

Keep with it girl!! Good job!!

I love the Beachbody Insanity... I've never sweated so much in all my life as I have doing those workouts.  I chose that over P90X as I was worried about all the weight work in P90X.  I did Insanity for 60 days and, although I still have a long way to go in terms of getting the toned abs of my dreams, I've never felt fitter.

Has anyone done the P90X without incorporating the diet? I already eat a healthy diet, and have found a food lifestyle that works for my body, so I don't really want to mess with that, but I'm looking for a workout that's a step up from the 30 Day Shred, which I'm halfway through right now.

I think the diet is supposed to be whats best given the exercises.  We start TODAY (or its supposed to come in today anyway!) I'm so excited!  I"m also sooooo outta shape.  I hope this works.  And I really hope I don't give up and I didn't waste $$.

@jsls - that's what I was afraid of. Is it very vegetarian friendly? I eat a lot of lean protein, but many mainstream diets are too strict for healthy veggie substitutions, so I've always just gone my own way with it.

I have a questions about the diet plan, too, for any of you bees on P90X.  My husband just started this weekend, and I'm not sure the diet plan is going to work for us.  We're both eating the 2400 calorie meals, and the portions are just huge!  It's really tough to eat that much at one sitting, even for my husband (who is supposed to be on the 3000 calorie meals, but scaled back so we only have to cook one meal instead of two).  Also, we spent like 5 hours cooking yesterday, and all we got done were two soups, one sauce, one lunch, rice for the rest of the week, and the meat for the rest of the month.  So every night it looks like we're going to have at least another 1.5-2 hours of cooking just to keep up with the plan.

Honestly, it seems like too much work and too much food to really keep up with.  Has anyone used a different meal plan?  Or does anyone have any suggestions on alternative plans that don't take up so much time and don't create such huge portions?  I'm considering just making my own meal plans following the protein/vegetables/etc... guidelines laid out in the booklet...  Do you think this would work just as well?

I'm curious about the food/diet plan too.  The FH is about to begin and he was telling me how a pain it sounds like.  Do you have to have a set plan per day?  Or does it give you options to eat something off of a list they suggest?

@ verosara - It gives you a set plan for each month.  Basically, it outlines one week of food, and then you repeat those meals for the rest of the month.  There is a section that tells you how much of an item counts for a portion of protein, vegetables, carbs, etc... but I didn't really understand how the substitutions work (in the weekly plan it'll say that 8 ounces of meat=1 portion of protein, but the substitutions page says 3 ounces of fish=1 portion of protein?).

It does feel like a major pain to me, which why I'm hoping some other bees have better alternatives!  :)

I am on Week 9 of P90X right now, didn't follow the nutrition guidelines, and I am doing fine. I eat healthy anyways, and like lilyfaith, I didn't want to mess up my diet I worked really hard for years to achieve. I think the main thing is to ensure you get enough protein. I eat mostly a vegetarian diet, so I sometimes supplement with protein shakes or protein bars, though not all the time. Lots of people have had sucess not following the P90X nutrition plan, but I think you just have to substitute it with another healthy eating plan.

I do a modified version of the diet. I do the serving sizes of each thing like 1 serving of carbs, 5 servings of protein. If you do the serving sizes and watch out on those "nasty foods" (as Tony says) you can still lose weight with the program. I've been doing it now for a month and I've lost about 8lbs.

It does seem like you're eating a lot of food- but you really need all the protein to work on building your muscles. Like @Valhalla I also use protein powder additives.
