Welcome to 2014 Pennsylvania. How nice of you to value equality over being a homophobe.

Hehehe. I totally read that as “Pa” as in “gandpa” rather than “PA” as in “Pennsylvania”, and I was like “Well, nice that grandpa is on-board but does he really get to make a ‘ruling’ about those sorts of things?”

Regardless – very happy news! Oregon as well!

Totalkaos1983:  Actually, I think it depends on your definition of incest (which differs from state to state in the US). I know several first cousin marriages that are great relationships but are technically illegal in the US. There are lots of other areas of the world that are much more accepting of or, even, encouraging of, cousin marriage, so it’s really a cultural issue.

I tend to stick to limiting marriage to concentual adults (or, in some rare cases, concentual near adults who have the mental and emotional capability to consent).

Totalkaos1983:  Hahaha! I grew up with gay couples as my mom had lots of friends that were gay, so homophobia has never been an issue for me (lucky me!). My grandmother (on dad’s side) is a very traditional southern lady and used to say that she didn’t mind if people wanted to be gay but didn’t think that they should be able ot get married. We talked about this, literally, for like 5 years. I honestly never thought she would change her mind (old people are usually set in their ways, it’s hard to change a view you’ve held your entire life). But, in 2008, when Florida voted on the same sex marriage ban she wrote me a card that she voted against it. It passed. But, in my book, it was a huge win. It’s literally one of the only times I’ve, personally, seen someone change their stance on a big issue like that. I cried. As each state is starting to legalize same sex marriage, I’m just continually amazed. I mean, I knew this was the direction the country was taking and I hoped it woudl happen in my lifetime (or maybe in my child’s lifetime) but it happening so much faster than I thought it would!

So proud of my state 🙂 today is a great day to be from PA! I honestly didn’t think this day would come for a long time, our state has Philly which is a liberal hotbed but many other parts of the state are very conservative.
