We are appyling for one since I'm Buddhist. Check with the office. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.
I just joined and was searching to see if people had this exact problem. The marriage license office just was telling me that the marriage may not be valid outside of PA, and even in some counties in PA where it's not regonized.
I don't know, we're thinking about just going to a magistrate and getting the legal part out of the way just in case.
It stinks because I was so happy when I found out about the self-uniting certificates.
My feeling is, if you can use the self uniting license or certificate or whatever you get to change your name at the SS office and DMV, it should be legal. But, I would call your local Attorney General's office to be sure. My brother officiated for us in Baltimore City, and I called the AG and made sure that it was legal (took an hour of the clerk searching to find me the exact wording that it was) and they were very accommodating
It looks like online on the PA website that it is a official wedding/licence like any other as long as its been approved of before hand by a county that will do it. Its odd though because I just looked and it doesnt look like they allow online officients. They tried to make you prove you are quaker, but have since denied that. HTHs

This might be a dumb question...but if we do a self-uniting marriage in PA (which is our current plan), will it be recognized in other states? What about other countries? I don't want there to randomly be hassle sometime down the road with some state/country telling us our marriage is invalid if there's an emergency (or if we move to a new state someday...taxes/insurance/etc. is all going to be a big mess if the new state won't recognize our marriage).
I'm sure it is recognized universally because otherwise it wouldn't be so popular, or even a viable option at all, but I just don't know how the legalities of all this work!
