I do Primal Blueprint, which is basically Paleo + dairy; so milk products are not something I personally avoid.

What are you trying to replace milk in? To drink? Recipes? I use coconut milk a lot in recipes.

Omg let’s talk milk! I stopped drinking cow milk three years ago so this was the exact question I had then. I knew I wasn’t going to like soy milk because my mom drank soy milk when I was young and I didn’t like it then. I drink almond milk and flax milk. I’ve tried hemp milk but the local selection is pretty expensive. I feel like there’s another milk I’ve tried but I can’t remember…Anyways I made pancakes with my almond milk and then made some again on another with my flaxmilk and they tasted better!

I must add how amazing it is you make your own milk! I’ve been wanting to do this but I think I’m intimidated and worried it won’t come out good. Is it easy?

ETA: I’m not doing the Paleo diet but I don’t drink cow milk.

We drink goat milk. It’s supposed to be better because it causes less allergies, has more nutrients, and is not pasteurized as we buy raw. The benefits are pretty anecdotal but you can find some information on google. It tastes delicious to me. If you’re interested, try to ask around for a local farmer. It’s not legal to sell raw goat milk to people so it won’t be advertised anywhere but there are likely farmers around. We live in Iowa and found a local farmer.

We also cook with coconut milk, and I recently tried coconut milk ice cream and it was really pretty good! Just throwing that out there!

I too follow primal, so I use dairy products in moderation.

However I don’t drink milk regardless- I use almond or coconut milk. Also, goats milk!

Some low-carb folk are really hyped up about omega 3 & 6 rations- which would pretty much ban you from eating any nuts, which would include nut milks. It all depends on what you would like to follow and what works for you guys!

I don’t cut out all dairy (we still use heavy cream, butter, yogurt & cheese fairly regularly). My favorite “dairy substitute” is probably coconut milk (and coconut oil in place of butter), but I’m sure it would not work well for all uses. It is easy to make if you prefer not to buy it canned. I do something similar to this recipe, though I don’t usually add vanilla & stevia. You can always sweeten after if you’re using it for something like smoothies. We’ve made our own coconut milk ice cream that was delicious, too.

@Eva Peron:  Do you recommend a certain type of almond milk? We bought some recently, and it was awful 🙁

@Lindsay12.31.2010 – We tried the Silk brand of almond milk, we didn’t like it at all.

@abbyful:  I think that’s what we bought too.  I hated it.
