If it were that bad, no one would have more than one child.

It was awful. I won’t lie. But my labor was ridiculously fast for a first time labor (6hours).

Now that it’s over, I think it wasn’t that bad, but in the moment I was not feeling that way.. lol

@julies1949:  actually, your mind is equipt, as a woman, to forget what the pain was like in order for you to want to have another child.

@Vidya:  Yes, it is a sly bugger.

Like, I can totally remember feeling like I NEVER wanted to go through that again..and for the first couple of days after, I was sure I’d never want to go through it again..

but now I sit here and think, “well, it wasn’t *that* bad I guess” despite the fact that I know it WAS that bad. haha

Not trying to scare the OP, it’s just something you go through that at the moment sucks, but then you look back at it and feel so strong that you actually went through it!

@Bao:  Oh yes, it’s ALL worth it.

My original plan was to go 100% natural, but I didn’t make it (almost did, they didn’t check me before my epi, because they didnt think I’d progress so fast, then once the epi was in they checked and I was 10cm, doh!)

Next time I totally have it in my head that I’ll do it without any meds. lol We’ll see…

The pain before my epidural (at 5cm) was bad, but not as painful as I thought it would be.  I knew I didn’t feel like experiencing it for hours on end, and got the drugs, but I certainly could have managed if I’d had to.  If you’re feeling nervous, check out the book “The Best Birth”; it really has a laid back approach to delivery, and it really reassured me in the weeks leading up to delivery.

ETA: I thought the pregnancy sucked way worse than the delivery!  I had a complicated pregnancy with 5 weeks of bed rest, so the labor was the light at the end of the tunnel!

not going to lie it sucked more than i can even explain. i had other medical issues going on as well that made it worse but Oh. MY. GOD. i thought i was going to die. but… the first time i held my son it was all worth it. every day i see him grow and change it is worth it. like pp said we are programmed to forget the pain to want to have more children. at the moment it really sucks but if you tihnk about it… its one/two days of hell for one of the greatest rewards ever

@julies1949:  I’ve heard there’s actually a hormone women have that helps to forget the pain of childbirth.  That could totally be b.s. though. I know that immediately after having my baby I was screaming that I would NEVER have another child, but four months later I’ve already changed my mind.  I don’t think it’s a matter of it not being that painful, I think it’s a matter of memories fading.

OP, I think you need an option of “as painful as I imagined” without the “but it was tolerable” part.

I got an epidural as soon as I was admitted, so I only had to endure a few hours of real contractions but those few hours were pretty damn hard.  I couldn’t imagine going through childbirth without meds, I don’t know how women do it.  I ended up getting an emergency C-section (after 15 hours of labor) and even that was painful for me (the pressure everyone talks about was awful.  I understand it’s not for most women but I was freaking OUT.)

He’s worth it though and yes, I would do it again.

It’s like a tattoo? LOL You’re like “I’m never going to do this again.” … a year later…
