I don’t have any pics but my DH’s cousin painted her oak cabinets a very very dark brown and added satin nickel hardware and they looked FABULOUS. I’m sure you’re doing a ton of reading, but like they always say, it’s all in the prep work. sand sand sand.

Here’s what my place looked like when I moved in:

I painted the cabinets, changed the wall color, and got granite counters (and changed the sink/faucet at the same time).  I still need to paint that laundry/pantry door to match the trim.  I also added crown to the tops of the cabinets to give them a little more height.

@mink:

Nice job! What faucet did you go with? Looks like a retractable hose right?

Another way to get a  really professional look is to do the frames of the cabinets yourselves, but take the doors in to be spray painted.

@regberadaisy:  Yes.  This is just a condo, so I didn’t go full out on this.  When we buy a home, I’ll be going for a similar look, but with a foot petal or a touch model.

@mink:

Which brand did you go with?

The touch ones are really nice but sooo expensive!

@regberadaisy:  No idea.  My counter guy gave them to me.  I got to pick from a few different styles.  They aren’t Kohler, Delta, or Brizo…I’d recognize those in a second.

Again, this is a condo, so I wasn’t as picky as I would have been usually.  I was super picky with my bathroom and that slowed things down a bit.

@mink:  I really love the dark redo (redo #1). Dark wood looks really great and gives a “homey” feel. When I see redos like the redo #2 with the white it reminds me of my former house, I had that style in the kitchen. 🙂

@mink:  OMG!!!!  i love the wall color.  That looks like the ever so elusive grey-blue I was searching for.  what brand/color is that???

@pinkshoes:  The dark color in the kitchen is Benjamin Moore’s Secret.  It’s a great color!  The lighter color in the foreground is Benjamin Moore’s Smoke.

Unfortunately I do not have the best photos here with me at work, but here are a few from our kitchen redo…

Before:

Here we were trying a different shade of green… fail!!!!

Midway:

Here are a bunch of paint colors that never made the final cut, lol!

After: (well mostly – we changed the knobs and got a new stainless steel stove after this…)

Here’s a photo with the new photos… it’s meant to be a photo of my dog, not the kitchen, so it’s not the best! If I remember, I’ll take one tonight and post it. I love it now!

We searched high and low for a blue/grey pain that we liked… I know this one is Pratt & Lambert Williamsburg collection. I’m 98% sure it’s Apollo Room Blue Light CW620 (from just browsing through their online swatches). I’ll check tonight. I love this color though… these photos don’t do it justice!
