mrstattoo10816:  You can easily paint the cabinets. The key is to use a good primer first, something like Kilz. Go to the paint store and talk with the experts.

I don’t have pics since we have moved on to a different home, but I have done this in the past. I also used the same primer to paint a Pepto Bismol pink and blue tiled bathroom. I painted over all the tile and there wre no signs of wear when we gutted the bathroom three years later.

I think painting laminate is a pain in the ass because the paint won’t stick to it like it would if they were wood. Would probably take forever and it might not come out so good either. But Home Depot sells rehab kits for like $70 for laminate cabinets. Your color selection is limited but they will deffinately look less dated. Good luck!

I don’t have laminate, but it isnt solid wood either.  Maybe it’s laiminate?  I’m not sure what its called.   Anyways… I’ve read Zinsser oil based primer will stick to anything.  I just did my laundry room cabinets.  Give it a light sanding just to help it stick better, but I forgot to sand underneath which is just plasticy feeling layer on top of the mdf, and just threw some primer on there and it stuck no problem.

For the bathroom, I used Rustoleum cabinet transformations.  They say you can use it on laminate.

I lightly sanded, wiped them off well and then primed them before painting.  Even then I used 4 coats of paint till I was satisfied and this was for our laundry room.  They look so much better, but I mean you can tell they are painted obviously.  It’s a great short term fix.
