So as nuts as my fiancé and friends think I am… I painted my wedding shoes. After searching for months high and low for the perfect shoes, I ended up findng the perfect shape shoe in the wrong color! So I painted them with leather paints! Annnnd it wasn’t that bad! This tutorial was incredibly helpful: http://www.wardrobesupplies.com/blog/?p=544
I bought all the Angelus paint supplies from Dharma Trading, leather prepper, paint and finisher. In the tutorial they prepped and finished their shoes slightly differently, but other tutorials prepped and finished tutorials the shoes how I did, using the Angelus products. The paints were pretty cheap, and I used foam brushes and a small paintbrush to clean up spots.
I think this is a fun, easy project, but it’s best to try out on leather shoes that aren’t too expensive. I think I paid around $50 for these Chelsea Crew Maytal Oxford Pumps. I bought the laces online from shoelacesexpress.com, I bought the white and the vanilla creme laces, but the white laces were a lot closer to the ivory I painted the shoes. Good luck to those of you who are looking to do this! Would love to see what you do!
