I know this is totally radom, but I am really curious.
What do you wear to the gym in regards to underwear?
I always wear track shorts (with cotton briefs underneath), but would like to start wearing more yoga-like capris for my crossfit workouts since I'm bending all over the place and you can see right up my shorts. I don't understand how all these ladies wear them and have no panty lines unless they are wearing a thong. Are you people really wearing a thong to the gym? I just don't believe it. There is no way a thong is conducive to a successful squat (Hello, front wedgie!).
In any case, am I thinking too much into this? Should I just let the panty lines fly? Or is there some secret underwear I just don't know about yet?
I wear a thong or... nothing at all for everything from weight lifting to rugby games. Once you get used to it, it won't get in the way of squatting.
I wear a thong. I am most comfortable in them. have you tried biy shorts? Or seamless underwear?
I wonder the same thing! I am so uncomfortable wearing a thong at the gym, but I can't stand panty lines either!
I suck it up and don't worry about the panty lines. But mine is an amazing all-women's gym (Healthworks, for anyone in the Boston area), and somehow I'm not as self-conscious as I would be at a coed gym.
Man...I was thinking this the other day. And what about going to the gym when AF is in town? Do people rock the panty line then? Does this mean that no one at my gym ever have an AF workout day ever? Or does it mean that they are all super women who can rock thongs all.the.time....?
@julies1949: In that case, I have never in my life had a properly fitted thong.
@julies1949: Agree!!! I teach aerobics and I wear a thong but a lot of my associates go without anything.
@mightywombat: Try getting them a size smaller than you think they should be. I had this problem too at first: Medium thongs at Lasenza or other undergarment stores were WAY too big! So I buy smalls now... It makes me feel cute and little!
I got some unbelievably comfy thongs at La Senza that have no seams and a breathable gusset. Although I'd like to, I can't go commando because I tend to be...*TMI WARNING* fairly juicy down there, especially when I'm working up a sweat. I'm envious of women who can go panty-less and not look end up looking like they wet themselves.
I wear my bikini cut underwear and rock the minimal panty lines with my spandex capris. I'm working out - not making a fashion statement.
*GASP* I just wear my underwear. If I have panty lines, who cares? I'm working out. Although I have seen my backside with the spandex shorts and panty lines and it's hysterical. I'm probably on a 'what not to wear' column somewhere. I'm fashion conscious everywhere but the gym.
Thong or brazillian (cross between a thong and boy short, usually a thin lace edge which doesn't show through).
A longer t-shirt would also work?
I wear thongs all the time, I find them much more comfortable than bikinis-so thats what I wear to the gym too.
I wear a thong (Victoria's Secret Lacie thong is the BEST and most comfortable one I've ever worn), or I wear boy shorts that don't have much of a seam.
@soyjoy222: At the gym I could care less about the aesthetic appeal of what I'm wearing, but if I wear boyshorts or panties they tend to bunch up and annoy the hell out of me. Which is why I'm in the thong camp.
I look gross when I'm at the gym. Red faced, sweating, trying to keep my bangs off my face... my last concern is panty lines. lol.
When I'm at the gym I'm not wearing makeup, my hair is usually in a messy bun, I'm wearing a men's shirt thats 3 sizes too big for me, and I'm sure as hell not caring if I have VPLs.
Honestly, I never thought about it. I don't think I've noticed a panty line at the gym. I just try to match and be comfy.
I have to agree with soyjoy222 why in the world would I be looking at or caring about VPL at the gymn of all places. Sorry I am there to get a good work out not care about who looks at me or what other people are wearing
Thong or commando. I always go right after work so I wear whatever I wore to work.
The only time i wear regular underwear is for horseback riding.
Man, I am impressed with you thong wearers. I don't mind thongs during the day, but I've accidentally forgotten full bottom underwear before (and changed at work), and have been uncomfortable during the entire workout. And there is no way I'd go without. That would just end up in one swampy mess.
I think that maybe I'll try a few different thongs and see how it goes. If it's all I can think about, though, I'm just going to rock the panty lines. I'll try to pretend I don't look like my mother at that point
i work out at 5:30 in the morning with no makeup and my hair all sweaty and gross. if someone is judging if i have panty lines or not, they're not working out hard enough. haha!
@bree72: Look for ones with no absolutely no seams. I'm talking no elastic along the edges or any kind of stitching whatsoever. They're out there, and they are A-MAZ-ING.
I don't go to the gym-just the yoga studio and I don't wear any underwear because my yoga pants have a built-in crotch (God, I hate that word! lol). But there are lots of excercise shorts, etc. that do too.
I don't want to worry about panty lines or having a thong up my butt when I'm twisted up like a pretzel. lol
I wear plain cotton thongs under my yoga pants. To met they are more comfortable than regular underwear. I have a big butt so regular underwear always end up in a thong anyway, might as well cut to the chase haha.
I just don;t care about the undrwear lines. I cannot wear a thong to the gym. I am very prone to ( TMI ALERT) yeast infections, and I know for a fact any thong contributes to this, when I am sweating, or doing alot of activity.
If my underwear lines offend anyone, then they shouldn't be looking at my ass!
@Mrs.ChubbyBunny: LOL..ME TOO! I don't know what's up, but EVERYTHING turns into a thong on me! An actual thong is way more comfortable.
@bree72: Nike has a great wicking line called DriFit...I find that there's no "swampy" situation with those :-)
I wear those nike capris with the built in crotch like a PP mentioned so no undies to the gym! And when AF is in town I just rock the panty line or swap to my nike shorts where you can't see them.
@Mrs.ChubbyBunny: Oh, and I know that feeling well with having a big butt. All my underwear ends up riding anyways so what's the point? Hahah.
I think I'm shocked at the amount of women who wear thongs to the gym. I totally thought everyone was going to say "who cares, I wear regular underwear"... guess I'm in the minority. HAHA I guess I just don't care if anyone sees my panty line - never really thought about it. Plus, it's not like the guys at the gym look at anything but themselves anyway ;-)
Most of the time I wear a cotton G-string. There's less shifting and the front stays in place. For AF I switch to a thong, less comfy but no more so than boy shorts or normal underwear. I used to dance, so then it was tights and body suit, no underwear.
I'm not a big sweater and mainly do pilates, so sometimes I'll go grocery shopping or something in my workout clothes (or just change the top). I don't want VPL for that!
I wear my undies or boy shorts. I couldn't care less about VPL, it never occured to me nor have I noticed it on others. However, this thread is a complete revelation to me. First, I owuld never dream of working with a thong. but I'd be way to self consciencous to prance my sweaty beaver around in my workout clothes without a layer. I'm kinda shocked at how many do that. Oh man wish I didnt click on this thread now, would have prefered to live in ignorant bliss. LOL
I know this is ridiculous, but I only wear those spandex capri type things to the gym, and you can definitely see panty lines. And yes I am self conscious about it. My boyfriend laughs at me after I change underwear to go to the gym haha. I have certain ones which leave no lines, and I just rotate between those. Most of them are Victoria's secret seamless, which are comfy too. I go to an really nice all-women's gym, and it's weird but I feel a little more self conscious there than at the old crappy gym I used to go to. I feel like all the women come to the gym all decked out in the newest and most expensive lululemon clothes (nope, never knew what this brand was til I asked someone at the gym wearing it) sporting full out makeup and jewelry. So I adjusted my style from old crappy t-shirts and shorts. Though I still won't get dolled up to go to the gym, the least I could do is hide my panty lines!
@bklynbridetobe: A thong is a layer though, I don't see the issue. I find all full-bum underwear (as my mom calls it) shifts around when working out.
@PinkPandaBear: I wear thongs 100% of the time even when I am on my period! I wear appropriate sized tampons and change often so they don't leak. Don't know why I would have to wear different underwear.
Someone else mentioned that all underwear turns into a thong for them - this happens to me also. And underwear bunching into my butt crack is way more uncomfortable than a well fitting thong. So it's thongs all the time for me!
