My reception hall has very high (22ft) ceilings. I am having a decorator hang paper lanterns, install chair covers, and do other decor items. My colors are ivory, burnt orange, and chocolate brown with orange gerbera daisy accents. My decorator only has 12 paper lanterns and they are white. I think I need more lanterns. Another decorator that I had contacted prior had wanted to hang 150 lanterns and I thought that was too many.

What is a good number of lanterns to hang? I am going to contact my decorator and see if I can buy some additional lanterns for her to hang. I really like these from Luna Bazaar http://www.lunabazaar.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=889&strVarSel=&strCompare=

I think it really all depends on how big the room is.  My venue is relatively small and I think 12 would not be enough for us.  Can you call your contact at the venue and see what other brides have done?

I guess it also depends on what kind of statement you want to make. Are the lanterns the focus or simply an accent? Do you want them for lighting or decoration? Will they be clustered in one location or spread throughout? 12 could be fine if you just wanted to hang them over the dance floor for example.

Lanterns are an accent. They are being used both for decoration and lighting. They will be spread throughout. I really want them in all of my colors.

Our space is 49x70 feet, and I'm planning to hang up to 150 paper lanterns.  I am hoping to use them for the main lighting, and I like the look of them just covering the ceiling.  What I'm planning to do is cluster them over the dance floor, in the center, and kind of thin out as they spread out over the rest of the room.  I'm buying them from the paper lantern store, great prices and free shipping on orders over $100.  I am not planning on lighting every single one of them, our colors are red and orange with green and brown accents (fall colors) but I'm ordering many in beige and just a few in the other colors, because I didn't want the room to be all red.  I really don't know how 150 will look.  Find Miss Tiramisu's posts on this site, she had a great tent setup and tells all about how she did her lanterns.  Lots of details, very helpful.

I thought about using lanterns too at my wedding but realized how difficult it would be to put up, so my focus is going to be on putting together great centerpieces to draw away from looking up.
