I don’t know about a plastic lining, but you could make it fun and get paper tablecloths and give people colorful markers to draw on them.  You could probably buy them at a restaurant supply store (more heavy duty).

I’ve seen paper table cloths with a plastic lining. It’s more like a coating IMO. They’re pretty much as flimsy as the normal paper ones. The ones that are all textured plastic with the fuzzy backing (reusable) are less flimsy.

I have used them for get togethers, and any spill and they tear.  My son likes to tug at them and they break.  It’s a really flimsy, thin piece of plastic behind a delicate paper.  If you are on a budget, have you asked around for discounts on linens?  I got mine for $3 each table cloth from someone who is a friend of a friend of an aunt or something like that.
