I wanted to do something really nice for my parents and his. My parents basically paid for most of the wedding, and then the rest (honeymoon, rehearsal dinner) the FI parents paid for. I am really lucky in that sense. I got my parents a Thomas Kinkade painting and had it nicely framed (they LOVED it) and I think we are going with a weekend bed and breakfast for his family. I am not sure, if your parents didn't contribute at all then maybe you dont' have to get them a gift, but even if they did contribute a little, maybe a nice card thanking them for their support and maybe a picture of you guys in a frame after the wedding, etc. Good luck!
I was thinking of getting jewelry for my mom, FMIL, and step mom. As for my dad maybe some really nice cuff links to wear at the wedding. and step dad... I'm stumped. My FMIL is a widow so no present for my groom's dad :( Jewelry I know can get real expensive but I know Macy's usually has good sales going on around the holidays... also the prices at CVQ.com are not too bad.. :)
We are thinking about buying our parents the Kindle (one for each set of parents). It is something that they will use and wll be very useful for when they travel to visit us.

What on earth did everyone get their parents as gifts?
And what if your parents don't contribute to the wedding? Do you still have to get them a gift?
