@konariley: HAHA me too! Duh! I forget how their set producer people can totally change anything into something else entirely. Mechiebaby found that it was mostly filmed in Massachusetts, but I still can't find the location for that home. Argh!
It's a private house in the town of Manchester, MA... I was disappointed, thought it would be a great place to visit

A lot of the scenes that were supposedly downtown Skitdo were actually Rockport, MA; I recognized it instantly from when I used to live up there. Gorgeous!
I also loved the movie and the house. That is one nice private home!
i travelled throughout alaska a few years ago for about six weeks and LOVED IT so if you havent been there yet - GO!

I just watched the movie again and remembered I had posted about my post I wrote--now almost seven months ago. Yup, it's a private home. Dang. Oh well, we are seriously considering a New England honeymoon and I might just have to work in Rockport, MA :) Thanks for all the digging ladies!
oh too bad! i just watched that movie last week and dh and i were totally into that cute town and that house...we were thinking to visit Sitka Alaska when we go to Alaska next year just cause of that! ahhhh...i can't believe i got fooled by hollywood. and yes ladies, i'm from LA. i'm embarassed.
I loved "The Proposal" but I could tell right away that it wasn't shot in Alaska. Mainly because I was born and raised there and I personally think Alaska is much prettier and spectacular.
OK...If the movies takes place in Alaska, why not film it in Alaska? ......Just sayin...
At the time The Proposal was being filmed, the State of Alaska didn't have an existing tax break program for movie makers. They just recently made it MUCH cheaper to shoot a movie in Alaska, whereas before it was expensive to travel up here. Locations that allow tax breaks or cheaper filming costs are a big attraction to movie makers.

I just saw The Proposal this weekend and loved it! Sandra Bullock--amazing and so beautiful! Ryan Reynolds--hilarious, and easy on the eyes, as all get out!
My question for you is, anyone know the actual location of the home used as Ryan's parent's home? I saw it and thought it would be a beautiful spot for us to go to---that's if it's not a private residence. I'm hoping it's a lodge type place or B&B or something. I can't find any information on it anywhere though!
