It does sound like it could be cultural differences so it will probably be hard for some of us to understand. It seems odd to me that parents would have imput on rings. Can you sit down calmly with mom and let her know the top things that are important to you. You know really pick which battles you want to go to bat for and let the other things that are not as important to you go.

Can you and your FI pay for the wedding on your own? Like you make your quest list and check around with vendors? At this point, I say go ahead and take control. Stop talking to your parents about the wedding  and give vague answers. All the things you want in the wedding she doesn’t can you pay for them yourself?

You and your FI can’t go to Sri Lanka and marry by yourselves? What is LDR?

Sorry about this. First of all you should have bought your own rings, by handing that over to mom she took it over. Second make your choies wihout apology and tell your parents that how it is. Third I agree with Fi tell your family you can’t afford it and sorry can’t invite those family members. If you are paying for the wedding they don’t geet as much input. You need to start standing up to them and letting them know they can’t ditate your life or wedding or marraige

Awww…..*hugs*. It seems the situation is getting worser and worser. I hate to say it, but if you keep smoothing things over your FI may become more and more upset with your parents until he does become confrontational. There is a fine line between “input” (advice) and monopolization. I really hate this is such a stressful situation and hope it works out.
