My first (and only) nephew’s first birthday is coming up soon! I typically get him a cute new outfit or new toy every once in awhile for fun, and the kid has more toys and clothes than he’d ever need so I wanted to get him something else for his bday. We’re looking at a budget of about $50-60 since I’m currently in school. The other day when the family came over his mom was looking through some of the scrapbooks I’ve made (it’s my hobby, I’ve made about 15 so far) and of course nephew has several pages! She remarked that she hadn’t done anything like that etc and I know she doesn’t really scrapbook ever. I’m considering making a scrapbook of his first year of life, I thought it could be a cute memoriabilia, but I don’t want to step on her toes if she planned to do something. I don’t want to ask because I wanted it to be a surprise, but it doesn’t seem like she’d have any time to do it either. I don’t have rights to his newborn, 3-6-9 month photos but could make pages for her to put those in. I definitely have tons of pictures from her and my facebook to make a whole album. Is this a good idea or should I just give them a check for diapers/college fund? Any insight. Thanks!

As a mother of a 7 month old I love the scrapbook idea!

GREAT idea. Making a scrapbook with premade pages so she can add some photos is an awesome idea.
I love scrapbooking and totally intended on making a scrabook for the first year of DD’s life, and made it as far as 2 months..lol there’s just not time to scrapbook when you have to look after said LO.

I’m a nanny, but I love it! It’s unique and personal, and it’ll be something the family can treasure for years to come. I find it hard to come up with gifts for FI’s cousin’s girls sometimes. As a set of three sisters, they seem to have every girly toy you could imagine, so I think a sentimental item, or, when they’re a bit older, a shared experience would be a nice gift.

I think it’s a lovely idea. You could paste a picture and piece of white paper big enough to write a little story related to the pic. Even if it’s just a caption like ‘This is (nephew) and me having fun with (toy)’.
I don’t think having a scrapbook from Auntie Mrs. N14 would mean that mom or dad or anyone else couldn’t also do one if they wanted so you wouldn’t be stepping on toes. The more personal you make yours, the more true that is. Yours will be unique, a view of the child through your eyes. Only you can provide that!

Yes yes yes yes and more yesses!!! That is so thoughtful and personal and trust me..at 1 yr old they are more into playing with the boxes than the gifts at the party. She will love it and he will cherish it when he gets older. My boys (now 17 and 20) still love looking through the albums of when they were younger.
DO IT!! 🙂
