I love my FILs and feel like my parents will really like them, however I am extremely nervous about their first meeting which is happening next week. Basically, my FMIL has been pretty overeager (read: pushy) about wanting to meet my parents, which I think has put my mom off a little. Mom friended my FMIL on facebook, thinking that it would be a nice way to communicate until they could wangle a meeting. FMIL took the opportunity to press my mom about getting together ASAP, suggesting meeting at a “halfway point” that is WAY closer to the FILs and then suggesting that my parents should just come to the FILs house… almost two hours away.
Eventually they settled on an actual halfway point (which I had told FMIL was the half-way point and have even met FI there on occasion) and a date to meet. But then my mom realized that at no point had my FMIL specified whether or not my FI and I should go. My FFIL even said to my FI that we probably shouldn’t go.
I’m thinking that I should insist to my FI that we are definitely going, because my mom’s already not digging the idea of a meeting because of how my FMIL has gone about trying to ‘arrange’ a get together. I feel like my parents want the moral support, but his parents clearly weren’t thinking of us coming. Should I insist on going, or leave it be?
