It's only necessary if THEY think it's necessary. yes 50 years ago they probably would have met- but if logistics are too difficult don't worry about it.
If your parents want to meet her, then maybe invite her out to dinner in her town and your parents will have to drive up there. If it's too much of a pain for you to get up there, then just explain to your 'rents that there is too much going on and maybe everyone can meet earlier, before the RD.

In spite of the fact that FI and I have been dating for over two years, engaged for four months, and friends for twenty-one years, my parents have never met his mom. They live about 3 hours apart. My folks are making noises about how they should maybe meet before the rehearsal dinner, but I'll be darned if I know how to get them together. His mom hardly ever comes to visit; my parents have no particular reason to go to the city where she lives, except to meet her. (We live in the same city with my parents.) She was here for TWO WHOLE DAYS at Christmas, but my folks were out of state at my sister's. Any suggestions? Is it even necessary for them to meet? Am I worrying about nothing?
