My Fiance and I recently became parents out of wedlock.
I was listening to a radio station that partners with Compassion International, a Chirstian based child sponsorship program. When I heard the DJ say something about a little boy who’s birthday was May 19, 2007 I knew he had to be ours. May 19, 2007 is the day we started dating and May 19, 2012 is the day we are getting married. So I felt it was a sign from God, that we help provide for this child and I am so thankful that we have the resources to do so.
So we are not “real” parents, but I am so excited about it. We are thinking of it as wedding gift for each other in sorts. A commitment that together we will provide for another life.
Do you sponsor any children?

Congratulations! What a special thing you guys are doing. I have several friends who sponsor children through Compassion, and it’s a great organization!

I sponsor a little girl through Compassion! Her name is Pili and she’s from Tanzania. I love getting her letters so much – she’s 5 and she writes the cutest things.

@AlliRae: Oh I can’t wait to get our first letter for him! It will make this so rewarding.

How exciting!! About 4 years ago I went on a mission trip with our church to Honduras. The leader of the group and his wife got to meet the little boy, their 22 year-old son was sponsoring through Compassion, while we were there. They took him gifts and he though he was in 7th heaven! I’ve always thought about doing that, and now that Darling Husband has a good job, we will definitely concider it! Congrats! 🙂

@seg31085: That is awesome. I know that Compassion sometimes offers trips to meet the kids. It is something I will look into once the wedding is over.
