So basically for financial and insurance purposes & new jobs, we got married just the two of us present and my 3 children from my previous marriage. No family or friends present.
Wedding Date: 5-18-2013
Party Date: 10-12-14 (A sundayWe are now planning a party to get the entire families together and meet and friends etc.
It’s a BBQ themed event, so nothing overly formal, we expect no gifts at all (although I realize we can’t put this on an invite) we wont’ be reciting our vows but we will have a full dinner, a full open bar and a live band.
What in the heck do we put on invites? Wording can be informal. We rented a super nice place to do this at because we want it to be memorable, but it’s defninitely not a “wedding” or a “re-do” wedding or anything like that.
ETA: Wording can be something funny like “better late than never, ” etc but not too silly.
I need help. Thanks!

@aquaelle: I would call it a vow renewal or a marriage celebration. 🙂 Congrats!
Here’s a link for you to check out. This website is great for wording

Thanks, I am still thinking those sound so formal. Hmm.

I’d ask the awesome folks over at A Practical Wedding (maybe in the Friday open thread?)
Maybe an invite with a bit more (con)text?

I was thinking something silly like “first comes love, then comes marriage…. then awhile after that comes a party!” might be funny– or is that way too silly? Our friends know we’re not traditional, and I think some people might chuckle.

I really like “first comes love, then comes marriage…. then awhile after that comes a party!”

I think I’ve got it!:
” First comes love, then comes marriage…
…Awhile after that comes a party”

@aquaelle: There’s a tongue-in-check invite on Pinterest that I love with the wording “Food, Booze and Bad Dance Moves. You in or what?” Might be just casual and irreverent enough 😀
