For any bees that know anything about passports and honeymoons.
I am getting married in June but we are not going on our honeymoon until December. We are going on a cruise to the caribbean. So my question to you all is first off, do I even need a passport if the cruise leaves from NYC and returns to NYC and if we do shore excursions will no passport cause issues? And secondly, do I just apply with my current last name and apply for a name change in June after the wedding? If so, how much does it cost to do a name change? Thanks for any input anyone has.

If you get off anywhere that isn’t a US territory then yes you will need the passport. I would suggest waiting until after the wedding because it will take 6-8 weeks so you have plenty of time after the wedding to get it.

Don’t apply until after the wedding, it’s not worth it. I just applied for my renewal and it took only 3 weeks to receive it back. You could apply now and get a name change for free because it’s within a year of applying but do you really want to do the paperwork and pictures twice when you have enough time if you waited until after the wedding? I would just wait.
