say no, because as of now, you have not been married.
Fill it out as you are today. You can get a replacement one once you're married. Do all your HM stuff in your maiden name. Like, if you're booking flights - put those in your maiden name, They won't let you fly if your passport and your flight info don't match.
I think you answer it in the not married way because you'll be sending in the application and receiving the passport before you are married. If you're changing your name, then you'll have to get it revised later.
You answer not married. Make sure you ask the passport agent for a "name change" form. You can also download one online. If you change the name on your passport within a year of receiving it, they will not charge a fee for sending you an updated passport.
The passport needs to reflect your current legal marital status and name. Since you will have the passport before you get married your legal status is "single" and since your name will not be changed until you return your name will be your Maiden name.
Once you get back you will need to apply for a new passport with updated name/marital status, just like you would a driver's license or anything else.
By the way, KUDOS on getting it done so well in advance! These things can take a while, especially during major travel times (like Christmas) so this will ensure that you get your passport well before you need it!
Okay! Thanks everyone! I'll fill it out as I am now :)
And thanks JamaicaBride on the name change tip, I didn't know about that!
As long as your name change doesn't go into effect before you use your passport, you'll be okay. Answer all the questions for the time of the APPLICATION, not the first time you anticipate using your passport. :)
Check no...also make sure not to apply any earlier than a year before you get married. If your name changes within a year you can get an update passport for a much much lower cost (possibly even free? I forgot) But if you do it more than a year before your name changes you will need to pay full price again (ouch!)

I'll have to apply for a passport for our out-of-country honeymoon next year, and I'm a bit confused about a part of the form.
It asks if you've been married, and since I'm filling it out before hand, do I write "no", even though I'll be married by the time I leave the country?
I'm not planning on changing my name til after we come back, otherwise I'd be in for even more of a headache..
Thanks in advance!
