My fiance and I are going to be applying for passports for the honeymoon. However we are a little confused. It asks if we have ever been married. Of course we haven’t yet, but we will be at the time of travel. Will we have to update before the honeymoon (we are leaving the morning after the wedding). Also, am I supposed to change my name before the wedding? or once we return from the honeymoon? 🙂 thanks bees!

Put down “no” for if you’ve ever been married (unless one of you has before!) that’s in case you went by another name at any other time, for example, if you HAD been married and taken your 1st husbands name, then divorced and reverted back to your maiden. Put the passport in your maiden name and change your name after the honeymoon. It’ll take longer than 12 hours to change it and you’ll need your passport to match the name that you book the flights in so make sure you use your maiden name for that as well!

Do everything you are filling out for your passport as what your current status is now.
The nicest thing with passports is- you get one now, use it on your honeymoon… then when the time comes to change your name after the wedding, if you do it within one year of getting this passport- the name change on your passport is FREE!!!
The cool thing was everyone at the customs seemed to know it was our honeymoon just because we were travelling to Fiji- we got so many “congrats” even though we never actually said it was our honeymoon to anyone.

This link may help you too when it is time for the name change after the honeymoon/wedding.

Lemondrop is right. Put that you are single now and if you change your name within a year, you will be able to change the name of the passport for free. Make sure to book the flights in your maiden name since it needs to match your passport.
I was not able to change my name until I got the marriage license back so it took over a week after the wedding for the SSA and DMV.
