This is my first time posting – my fiance and I just got engaged over the weekend. We went shopping for the ring together and decided on a pave style engagement ring as this allowed us to now pay as much attention to the diamond quality, and stick within our budget (especially considering my opulant taste). We are both starting to wonder if we should rethink it and consider rings with a smaller carat size, but bigger center stone. What do you guys think? It is 7/8 carat.

I wouldn’t change it. I think it looks perfect as it is! It’s beautifully proportioned to your hand. I also think that all the pave gives it a very glamorous sparkle! You picked this ring for a reason, don’t second guess yourself! Now it’s time to enjoy being engaged! Congrats!

@maggielou52: +1 Its a gorgeous ring. Don’t worry be happy!! Congrats OP!

If you already bought that ring, I’d stick with it since it looks gorgeous! If you haven’t bought a ring yet, I’d go for bigger carat size only because you can get used to how a ring looks on your finger and shrinkage sets in.

@Daenaria727: Congrats!! I think it’s really pretty, but if you guys are second-guessing it, it couldn’t hurt to go out and try on different rings and then make a decision!

Personally, I would get a larger center and forgo the side stones if I had to make a choice. A total carat weight for a ring is a meaningless stat to me… for me, it’s all about the center stone. But for your own ring, it’s really up to what YOU like. Don’t forget you’ll be adding a wedding band too, so that’ll add even more bling.

@pinkshoes: My wedding band will be custom made to be flush against this ring, and then the small diamonds from my grandmother’s wedding band will be placed into it – so it will be custom, regardless of what ring I have. 🙂
I think I’m going to take a look (whout my FI so he doesn’t freak out over price tags). At least when I walk away, I’ll be confident I made the right decision.
Thank you all!

I think it is really pretty!! Congrats!!!! I am a solitaire girl, so I would would have gone the other way, but if you love pave, I would keep it! 🙂

It’s a beautiful ring! I love pave!

@Daenaria727: looking back on my ring, i would have gone with the bigger center stone in a less expensive setting bc the setting is always cheaper to upgrade 5 or 10 years down the road.. i am fortunate enough that my fiance has offered to upgrade my center stone and let me keep the same setting once he gets his bonus next year. go with what you feel is best!

Here is a close up of the center.
I think that this is a great ring for our budget and where we are. We both want a larger wedding. And in 5 years, maybe we can upgrade after we’ve both finally graduated. 🙂 I’m a pre-nursing student.

I got the large stone and pave. You can do both. Your ring now is very pretty.
