Pay out of pocket for repairs or trade in vehicle?

    @MrsRedPumps:  i would first suggest getting another quote or 2 for the repairs before making up your mind.

    @MrsRedPumps:  most jobs will have similar costs (if the same thing is done) but i think you should have the mechanics look at the vehicle and not just tell them what is needed. 

    reason is, some mechanics will suggest more work than necessary.  let a few different mechanics assess the situation and allow them to tell you what they think is wrong and how to fix it.

    i would keep my current car and pay to get it fixed. you can get that out the way and be car payment free in 2 years. when you trade it in, more than likely they are going to significantly lower your trade in value thus putting you upside down on what you owe versus what the car is worth and they are going to take that to the end of your new loan. had this happen to me and it almost doubled my previous car payment. this is the price you pay when buying luxury vehicles. the repairs and maintenance are sky high.

    i didnt mean to imply that only luxury cars have problems. came out wrong i guess
