I have a question. I found a make up artist I love, but she’s from CA and I’m from MA. So I would need to fly her out here. How does that work out? Do I get to pick a flight and pay for it or does she pick any flight and I pay for it? There are obviously huge differences in price. I could get a $430 round trip VS close to $700.
What’s your advice? I’m too new at this and can’t find anything on the subject via Google.

For the vendor that is flying to my wedding, we agreed that she’d pick a flight that worked well for her, put it “on hold” with the airline, and email the details to me. That way, I still have a veto power and am not getting blindsided by the cost, but she can pick something that works for her too. I think that many airlines will let you have a 24 hour hold on a ticket (you’d have to book directly through the airline thought, not Orbitz or Hotwire or one of those).

I’m doing this is with my photographer. I was so stressed trying to make the flight work for my budget without her going at 4am or over night, or for 12 hours or something. Finally I just emailed her and said I’d found several flights that range between 400-600 (of course several that are more as well) and asked if I could send her $600 and she could choose her own flight.
What we ended up with is we made her total cost a flat rate that included travel. Since I was paying for flight and hotel we just add about $800 to the original total for her work, and if she has extra great she can rent a car, if not great she can pick the more expensive flight or nicer hotel room if she wants. You know?
