ooo yeah if you're not comfortable selling your dress this way then don't do it. However, I don't know anything about Escrow.com but I know Paypal protects not just the buyer but the seller too. I LOVE Paypal and think you'd be better off insisting to use that service. You won't be helpless. If she were to file a false claim then you would be able to counter, and the case would be evaluated from both sides. They wouldn't just screw you like that. But do what feels best to you, maybe just try to sell it locally to someone you can meet in person.
@meliss: I have used escrow.com before. Once escrow.com has verified that the buyers funds are good, the Seller is instructed to ship the merchandise. Once the buyer receives the merchandise, and inspects and accepts funds are released. In the event the buyer rejects the merchandise, the buyer must return the merchandise to the Seller. Once the Seller receives the merchandise, the Seller will have a 5 day period to inspect the merchandise. Once the seller accepts the returned merchandise, funds are then released back to the buyer less the escrow fee. If you have have questions you can email them at support@escrow.com, or call the at 888-511-8600
@Bogeyman: Thank you! We did end up doing escrow.com. The funds cleared yesterday, and I'm shipping the dress today. Hope all goes well.

Any preferences or bad experiences with either? Which one's better for the seller?
I'm corresponding with a potential dress buyer and am kind of paranoid. Reasons of worry: 1) She hasn't asked many questions about the dress or asked for additional pictures, and it's an older model that is no longer available so it's not like she could've tried it on anywhere 2) Her English is not excellent (not a concern by itself, but still). On the plus side 1) She has agreed to escrow.com and according to the owner of preownedweddingdresses.com known scammers never do this 2) She has gone back and forth with me several and bargained to death.
I'm picturing a horrible scenario where Escrow.com confirms the funds, I ship the dress, she rejects it saying it wasn't in the condition described, returns me a abox filled with old rags instead of my dress, and she asks for a refund. She gets the money back, I am left to prove I only received a box of old rags. Could this happen and what would I do then? I'm just worried about everything.
