@SweetChick:  so sorry! I have this as well.  I understand the initial worry and stress it can cause.  I found out when I was 23- I am now 27.

I’m on seasonique- and yes, it masks the condition, but my acne is less frequent, as are my migraines.  There are hormones that can be taken when you’re trying to get pregnant.

I have a few friends with this same condition and they all say the same thing: if planning on having children, plan early … because it takes a while. Remember PCOS is sort of like a spectrum! Just because you have it, does not mean you have all of the symptoms that go with it!

I was diagnosed at 15. I have had it for 20 years.

I have never had shedding hair, but I do battle easy weight gain, excess hair (got that shizz lasered off!) and am virtually infertile. The infertility is not such a bad thing, as CFBC. I could conceive through IVF if I wanted.

PCOS is not a nice thing, but it is infinitely manageable. Keep your weight in the healthy range, excercice and eat well and you can pretty much keep it under control.

@SweetChick:  Are you trying to conceive right now? If not, ask your doctor about spirinolactone – it did a great job of clearing up my PCOS acne. If you’re concerned about hair thinning, I think it might help with that too.

if you are TTC, consider starting metformin. I took metformin for a year before TTC and got pregnant on our first try. My last horomone panel numbers looked fantastic thanks to the met – I went from elevated testosterone to undetectable. Metformin also helps many women with PCOS get pregnant faster and more likely to have healthy pregnancies.

For me, it was the weight loss that helped a bit with the facial hair, but it did nto get rid of it completely.

What helped the MOST was a course of 6 laser sessions. I don’t mind admitting that I used to have to shave my upper lip and sides of my face daily, now I just epilate off the blond hairs that remain once a week! It was the best investment of my life.
