Hiya all,
I am in a pickle. I was planning on going with a nice fall wedding for our Oct. 30th wedding. The downside to this was that both my and my FI's favorite colors are blue. We were in Michaels last night and saw peacock feathers. Inspiration hit me. They are absolutely gorgeous and I think that they would make a fantastic theme for our wedding. Does anyone think this is weird? I have heard that they're bad luck, but I currently have one and still managed to meet my love so I don't believe it. Do any of you awesome gals have any advice to go about incorporating the feathers and colors into a wedding? Any and All ideas are welcome!
I am just worried about going overboard or not adding enough. They are fun, beautiful, and unique :)
Thanks so much! I apologize that this is sooo long.
here are some ideas on this thread... and some pictures from my own stash :o)

LOVE that look! Wanted it for our wedding, but it's more of a Fall theme! GORGEOUS!
... cre, those are GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I want to do that for my wedding. Those belly-banded things are amazing.
@cre- thank you so much! That link looks like it shall be uber helpful :)
@evie- thank you for saying it looks like a fall theme! I totally wasn't sure and wanted to make sure it fit our date :)
Oooooh yay, a peacock bride. I'm one too!
In about 3 weeks, I'll have real live photos to show off. :) I have a bunch of inspiration photos - I'll try to dig some out today or tomorrow.
I'm working the teal aspect of the feathers. Our invites were navy & teal. Someday I'll have a pic. ;) My girls are in teal and I believe our flowers will be orange... Sounds icky but if you look @ the feather there are lots of amber/oranges in them. Peacock can go so many ways... royal blues, purples and jewel greens with hints of orange, gold and red would be luvrly in fall. :) This is definitely a theme you can go overboard with - I'd stick to some feathers in the florals and scattered around the cake table and possibly on your napkin rings. At one point I was also thinking of working olive into my colors and going a bit more muted. Ahhhh, so many choices... :) I've probably been no help!
OK, here's a quickie couple of pics - my original inspiration board:

And this is one of the design motifs from our invites - we went a little more whimsical than some of the other pics

I was just hit with the peacock inspiration the other day! Our colors are blue and green so the peacock feathers are the perfect accents to flowers, hair accessories and centerpieces. I found a Goody hair clip in Target-it's a few small peacock feathers made into a hair clip and it's was only $2.99! On theknot.com you will find alot of great ideas. Look under blue and green weddngs, I found bouquets and centerpieces with feather accents. Also, orientaltrading.com has peacock feathers for a great price.
Good Luck!
Miss Meepsie- you are being super helpful! Thank you so much for the ideas. I did indeed notice the orange in the feathers :) Do you think if I put my bridesmaids in teal and my MOH in gold it would look good? Also to have a couple feathers in my bouquet must I use only white flowers? Thank you so much again, I truly appreciate it. Your wedding sounds stunning!
lmao @miss meepsie: i have your inspiration board in my folder!!! LMAO!! i love it with the green and here is another insp board that i've gotten from somewhere...
Thank you ladies! Wow you are all amazing :D I am so lucky to have found this awesome board...and y'all know how to match!
@ cheese - all my girls are wearing teal (alfred angelo tealness to be exact) and my mom is wearing gold - I'll post pics as soon as I get any & you can see for yourself! :) You can use any flowers you like. Here are some examples of bouquets that I found...
@cre - lmao. glad you like. :)

lol btw jo jo love those pictures!!!!! I love non-white tablecloths!!
"peacock inspired jewel tones" was my initial inspiration.
My ladies will be in Alfred Angelo's tealness, and carrying white bouquets - probably large poofs of white hydrangeas or carnations. I will have a bouquet of dark blue (iris), purple, maybe a little dark pink to contrast against my ivory dress. The tables at the reception will be white rounds with navy pintuck square overlays and white napkins and china. I also want hydrangea centerpieces.
@jojo - hooray for tealness! It's such a great rich teal. When I first told my BM's teal, they gave me the oh no 80's eyeroll. Now they're all thrilled with the color. :)
I absolutely LOVE peacock and I am using it in my wedding with purple accents!!! If you go to Karen Tran Florals website, you can click on the peacock wedding and it has alot of inspiration. If you love something, you should go with it! I'll keep you posted with mine as well!
Meepsie - Totally agreed on the tealness! I was SO EXCITED when I got the AA swatches and it was even more awesomer in person! I love deep, rich jewel tones and I'm glad my ladies do too!
I love, love, love peacock! There are also very pretty handbands with peacock feathers on them and so many accesories now that you can have your bridesmaids wear. You can incorporate so many colors! Very pretty!
i never imagined a peacock themed wedding, but i love all this inspiration. the colors are deelish!
I'm doing peacock! It's more of an antique peacock, so most of my decor is gold, metallic, ivory, and brown tones, but I'm doing peacock accents. My BMs are wearing teal chiffon over a tan underlay for their dresses. I'm going to have peacock feathers laid on gold charger plates. For my invitations I'm putting a wax seal of a peacock on the back of the inner envelope. For the flowers I'm sticking with mostly ivory. I've attached my attempt at an inspiration board.
I think your ideas sound great! Peacocks are bad luck at theaters--like broadway type - according to my aunt-- i don't think they are anywhere else! Plus they mate for life. :-)
I'm having a peacock themed wedding as well! My colors are grape and green but I feel it's a warm and vibrant touch for a winter wedding. Here are a few of my favorite inspirations.
This was a big inspiration for the color scheme of my bouquet
this was the inspiration behind the color!
this one would have a purple ribbon for us.
this was the main inspiration for the flowers
this is how my bridesmaids dresses and flowers will coordinate, even though their dresses are all different. their bouquets will look like this.
I lucked out and one of my BM's aunts has 35 peacocks in her backyard so we have 4 big boxes of feathers we are using everywhere! Our centerpieces will be tall clear vases with birch sticks and peacock feathers sticking straight up and clear crystals attached to the birch hear and there. The base has clear and purple beads.
Good luck! garden ridge here in texas has tons of peacock stuff if that helps!
I loooooooove peacock feather themed weddings! I wish I had incorporated them into mine somehow. I say go for it! And then post pics so I can drool over it, lol!
Peacocks are not unlucky. They are a symbol of fidelity because they mate for life. They have even been known to die of a broken heart if their partner dies.
I considered doing a peacock theme for my wedding too! I blogged about it and put all of my ideas there.

Good Luck!!!

MAN, Peacock is my FAVE! Unfortunately my sweetie isnt open-minded enough to go with it, he is much more traditional :(
Mrs. Avocado had some peacock inspiration. Check out her old posts.
thanks for all advice ladies! the pictures are super helpful :)
Hi CheesetomyWhine...
I know you have a ton of advice here but I wanted to share with you a link to the designer for my wedding who did a great job with a peacock-themed wedding....enjoy!

P.S. Make sure you check out the centerpieces and the cake!
I found some on Karen Tran's blog worth checking out! I think one of the bouqet Cre posted above is from Karen Tran.
Girls, I am disappointed in you all. You have dropped the ball. How come no one has posted the famous Carrie Bradshaw wedding ensemble picture with the amazing peacock feather in her hair?!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the peacock theme - the colors together are so beautiful!!
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! (And meepsie, looooove the modern image from your invites.)
I once heard a special story about peacocks that makes me love them. It's said that the peacock is always happy, because he thinks about his beautiful tail rather than his ugly feet. Kind of a bad paraphrase, but you get the idea -- a parable about choosing to focus on the positive in life. Which is a positively wonderful approach to marriage, if you ask me!
Louboutin - I think her dress in the movie was pretty fugly. I try not to think about it. Ever.
LOL... because the SATC wedding ensemble was cracked out. I'd LOVE to wear a down blanket to our wedding, but it'll be in the middle of summer!
OMG you are so right! It totally looks like a draped down comforter!
