After some discussion with my SO we have decided it’s okay to go with a new ring (long story). So we went window shopping for some rings to see what I liked. Originally I had chosen a .35 solitaire but it sold before we could buy it… probably for the better.
I began to try on some solitaires. I’m not a “round brilliant” girl. I wanted something more unique. So I tried on a marquise solitaire.. wow. I loved it… but then I tried on a pear and ***swoon**! I loved them both! I can’t decide which I love more now. UH And SO likes both also so that doesn’t help me one bit.
Anything you can tell me to help me choose between the 2. This is so hard.

I absolutely adore pear shaped stones. I just inherited one and I’m obsessed with it. I don’t mind marquise but they’re generally seen as kind of old school while I find pears to just be unique (and gorgeous).

I’ve heard long cuts (like marquise and ovals) lengthen the appearance of your fingers. Did you think one or the other fit your finger better?

I’d pick marquise over pear only cause it’s more symmetrical. A pear always looks like it could be upside down and that would drive me nuts.

I like chunky pears or wide marquise cuts (not super skinny ones). Both are beautiful! Both also face up bigger.

@AlwaysSunny: I wish I would have taken pictures… they both looked really nice.
@pinkshoes: I never thought of that.. Interesting.
@RayKay: You sound like me! I can’t choose!!!

I love, love, love, love, love, love, love marquise.
Did I mention love?
So I’m a little biased, but yea, marquise.

You can’t really go wrong with either, but my heart cries for a pear.

I am so in love with my pear! My best friend had a marquise, but found it was always catching on things and scratching her, her husband, and her little boy.
The only marquise ring I’ve seen that I’ve liked so far has been an east/west setting.

I also love the pear cut! My FMIL has a very small marquise and it looks a little dated to me. But I say go with which ever you will love now and in the future!

I am totally in love with my pear. It’s all locked up now waiting for the setting to be finished. I’m not a round brilliant kind of girl either and I have small hands so I wanted something that looked right on my finger. For some reason I never liked marquise at all.

Marquise, for sure… But then I’m biased:

Nothing is more classy and fabulous than a pear. Katherine Heigl’s is stunning. I’ve uploaded a picture of her’s.

pear! more esthetically pleasing to me.. I don’t like the pointiness of a marquise
