Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with pearls! They are so classic and elegant. And they go with practially everything. I think they'd make a lovely gift!
I agree. All my bridesmaids wore white pearl strands and it looked really classy. We looked rich =)
I'm doing the same thing! Girls will be in green with brown sashes, and I'm making pearl neckalces. I'm ordering the beads online and stringing them.. I'm going to use Swarvoski pearls (which aren't real, but they're actually crystal.. so it's no SO wrong is it?). They're weighted to feel like real pearls too. I think I'll be eable to make them all for under $50 and I'm going to make 6. You can get the pearls in tons of different colors online too.
Hmm, maybe making them is a good idea. I love my BM's but $300 on pearl sets, my goodness.
I was thinking the same thing.. I might buy a real set for my MOH, but making them isn't too hard. There's tons of tutorials online, and all you gotta do is string em!
The sites I've been looking at are artbeads.com and firemountaingems.com
So now you got me thinking to make my own.
The set includes a 17 inch necklace. 1 inch = 25.4 millimeters so that would be about 431.8 millimeters of pearls. It looks like online the 8mm pearls are most commonly used, but the set I am considering at Kohls is 6 mm pearls. So I would need approx 72 pearls per necklace. It looked like the price per pearl was anywhere between $0.08 and $0.14. Let's say $0.10 for this calculation. That would be $7.20 ($7.50 after tax) of beads for each necklace.
If I wanted to also do the 7 inch bracelet I would need about 30 pearls which would run another $3.
Then we would have to add in the cost of the string/wire which is not cheap AT ALL. Plus the clasps at a few cents each.
My guess would be total cost for a necklace and bracelet made would be about $15 per girl plus lots of time and effort.
I may still think about just buying 6 sets (which include earings) which are the real deal.
Also, technically if you don't just string pearls, they each have to be individually knotted between each one. Its a lot of time added as well. You don't have to do it, but to make the set correctly it should be done.
I gave my maid of honor black cultured pearls similar to the ones below but got them at Macys on sale for $40.

Although I didn't have the maid of honor wear them for the wedding, they were still timeless and beautiful and something she could wear forever.
Hey caszos, I received my order of 700 swarvoski pearls from Artbeads.com today(that was the cheapest I found) and I couldn't be happier! Well.. I could be, the color was a little darker than I expected. But the wieght of the beads is awesome, and they really do take cold and heat like real pearls do. I am going to start making my necklaces this week! Did you end up getting any beads online to make your own?

So I was just hunting black friday sales and saw that Kohls has a Cultured Freshwater Pearl Earring (studs) Necklace and bracelet set on sale this Friday. Originally $150, marked down to $47.99. I have 6 Bridesmaides but I always thought it would be nice to give them nice jewelery to wear that day.
We are deciding in a couple of weeks between chocolate brown dresses or a sage/fern color dress. I think either would look great with pearls and not so great with silver/white gold colored jewelry.
I am trying to find pictures to see how this would look.
