I'd rather have a fleece.
The pears would go to waste in our house since DH doesn't eat fruit and I probably couldn't eat them all before they went bad.
I do really like pears though.
I'm freezing cold at the moment, so the fleece wins out.
I guess these are some special pears?? I think a fleece just because I would have a raised eyebrow moment if I opened pears as a Christmas present.
I'm sorry but I think food is a weird gift. Especially something that could be bought at the grocery store. I'm with your husband on this one. Get the Fleece.
I would like organic pears. My sister and BIL always send food- local meats and cheeses and we love it. DH loves to eat (high metabolism!) I would love some local cheese, personally.
I love food item gifts, so that's what I would choose. This year, we bought everyone wine or cheese baskets for christmas; super easy and I think they'll be crowd pleasers.
I've always wanted to try the Harry & David pears to see if they are all they are cracked up to be, and I hate getting clothes for presents, so the pears get my vote.
I think food is a great idea. However, just pears might be odd. I like some of H&D's mixed baskets--cheese, choco and fruit YUM!
EDIT-- I have to admit my dream gift is to get fruit of the month, but damn it is so expensive!
I voted pears because those ones are supposed to be delicious! Also, I love pears! I agree, they probably have enough warm weather clothes. Also, I LOVE the idea of cheese. But this is all coming from a foodie.
I like food items, but perhaps these people don't eat a lot of fruit or veggies?
I live in Cleveland and it's cold here. You can't have too many fleece items and cold weather gear! I always end up losing my gloves/hats or misplacing them and I love when people buy nice hats/gloves/scarves for me as I can always use more.
I voted for the fleece(befoe I saw they were H&D), but your talking Harry and Davids pears, I would be all over those. I may have to treat myself to one while shopping this weekend, yum.
I'm all for food gifts as well, but I think you can make the gift a little more special. You could make homemade jam with the pears, it's not hard to do and it will last longer than just giving them fruit ( To be fair I'm not familar with the store you are buying them from).
@kerensa: If they don't, more of a reason to give it as a gift IMO
why are these pears so great?
I'd rather have a fleece though, get more use out of it.
Thanks, guys! I went with the two fleeces! I REALLY wanted to do the pears, but didn't end up feeling right about it, since DH was so against it. I had just sent my brother some edible gifts for his b'day last month - so I think it's a win win.
....I do really want to try those pears sometime, though!!!!
@oracle: OH, DO try them. I don't even like pears and I love the H&D pears. I have made a pear eater out of DH as long as those are the ones I bring home, LOL.
I always prefer food.
I prefer to choose my own clothes and almost nobody understands my taste. whenever somebody gives me something to wear, I usually don't like it. when I buy clothes for other people, I always include gift receipts.
I loooove fleece and I would think a fruity food gift was a little weird.
I would have loved the pears. (I see you went with the fleeces) I think it is such a nice gift and I love good fruit. :) I'm sure they will like the fleeces, though!
@oracle: my aunt and uncle sent me and FI pears and apples and some different cheese from harry and david...they're awesome. don't get the fleece. ;)
Pears, because they're consumable. I feel like people generally have all the clothes that they need, and if they don't, they like to pick them out for themselves. Especially, as you say, if they live in MA!
What if you got one of the Harry and David combo packages that includes a few pears and a few other treats, too -- so it's not *just* pears, in cae they don't like pears? I know the H&D catalog well, lol, because DH orders from it every year for his stepmother.

I was going to get my brother and SIL some pears from Harry and David for Christmas - but, DH doesn't like that idea. He wants me to get them a couple of fleece pullovers......
They live in MA and I'd think they have enough cold weather gear.... he thinks they can go buy pears anywhere.
What would you rather have? A fleece or pears?
