Hi. We just adopted this dachshund about a month ago now. Some of you may have seen numerous posts about her. Im trying to figure out if we can crate/house train her better or if it would be a better option to pee pad train her. I have never had to train a dog on pee pads.
We have a 11 month old daughter that takes up alot of our time. My fiance works days and i work evenings so some one is always home with our dogs. Need some advice on what our better option would be to help her. Thanks.

@isabelle_86: I disagree with pad training, mainly because it teaches them that it’s okay to go potty inside. What we have always done is get a cow bell or bell of some kind, throw a long string on it, and then hang it on the back door knob. Whenever they go out, we train them to ring it.
I just saw your other post that she has to go pee a lot? I would definitely go get her checked for a UTI.

@PacificMrs: I dont think it has anything to do with that. She’s a smaller dog than what im use to. She has been in 3 homes before me and dont think she was ever trained properly.

If someone is home with her most of the time, I’d suggest house training, but pee pads are pretty effective, too, and can gradually be moved out of doors as she learns to hold it. Also you can put a pee pad inside a kitty litter box to keep anything from soaking through.
