I think for stability's sake you should add the base, but I would leave off an archway or anything else. They are so cute on their own!
So I ended up adding a small base, just because I do think that I'd be nervous that one of them would fall off of the cake. I'm pretty happy with the way it came out. Thanks for the feedback!
Too funny... I am doing the SAME thing and am using the SAME base! Yours turned out GREAT!
Thank you! It was trickier than I thought...the wood softened up a bit in spots, and it got kind of a nubby texture. My dress is raw silk though, so I thought that is kind of worked to mimic the texture. I would recommend using some kind of primer. Good luck! Post pics if you can :)
Where did you get the base? I think we are going to do the same thing.
I got the base at Michael's...there is a section for unpainted wooden crafts, like toys and clocks.
those look awesome! great job! i especially love the eyelashes on the bride and the eyebrows on the groom :)
I would say add a base just to elevate the cake topper, but paint it the same color as the cake.

Just finished painting my peg doll cake toppers, and I had planned on putting them on a wooden base with our names and the date, but then I was thinking...would it be too "bulky"? Should I let them stand alone? I was also thinking that if I had a base, I could add a wire archway with some miniature pom poms.
